Pub Chatter: UNBOUND - October 1, 2017 - Prompt # 3 - Write a poem about your favorite Halloween memory.
My Favorite Halloween Memory
Well it might not be my favorite
but it's one I won't forget
I was only in grade five
still, the memory lingers yet
Costumes could be worn in class
the school announced that day
and up and down the block
you could hear kids shout, hooray!
I had a brand new cowboy suit
with a vest that bore a star
red fringed chaps and a western hat
the best outfit by far
On the way to school we horsed around
the vision's with me still
the impulsiveness of what I did
to the milk truck on the hill
Ran on the road and waved my gun
like holding up the stage
then quickly ran away again
the driver in a rage
In class the teacher made me stand
the only cowboy - hard to hide
hoist upon my own petard
"That's him!" the milkman cried
That night at home before my dad
no trick or treat for thanking
just a lonesome cowboy across his knee
getting a stagecoach robber's spanking
