Chapter 1 (PROLOGUE)
Let me just tell you that summers aren't always as awesome as every teenager paints it out to be. I, Emma Fox am living prove of that statement. I have never had an awesome summer so to call it for the past 10 years. Trust me when I say this because this isn't me a total girl and dramatizing everything. You see when my mom decided to just walk out on my dad and I 10 years ago at the end of summer, my dad had to put everything he had into working to pay the bills, put a roof over our heads and get me through high school. Don't get me wrong I love my dad just as much as he loves me but summer is just a reminder of the painful memories I try so hard to forget.
So instead of laying around on the beach in a skimpy bikini that barely covers my ass or partying it up and getting wasted, or having what people like to call it a summer romance, I much rather get a decent job that pays well and help my dad out a little.
I guess I'm not exactly your average teenager and can you blame me? I mean with everything I've had to go through it’s almost impossible for me to be normal and I'm actually glad I'm not like the rest of the teen population here in California. I'm not one to judge but they were all just asking for it. Okay maybe they aren't all the same but a solid half of them are pretty much airheads, jocks, and just straight up jerks. Yeah you could say being different has its pros and cons. For instant in high school I'm practically invisible and I'm quite happy with it. High school can be a very scary place to be in. Just so you know I'm not that invisible weirdo kid who sits by the corner with her iPod plugged in 24/7. I'm more of the kid that has a handful of friends and gets by in all her classes. Of course life in high school is even more bearable when your best friend is Cathy Wellings. At first glance you might mistaken her for a bitch and trust me she can be one if you ever piss her off but I really can't blame her. If you were attending Seafield High you have to have a mean streak to survive. This place is filled with the most vicious girls you could ever meet and assholes who only want to get in your pants. Thanks to Cathy and my Advanced Creative Writing classes I think I will be able to get through my senior year. I always had a passion for writing and I'm praying that it will be my ticket in to N.Y.U with a scholarship next year.
