Chapter 2

Today by the way was the last day of school before summer break. The entire school was buzzing with their summer plans and all the parties that were going to happen. I on the other hand was just glad that I was free of this hell hole for the next 3 months. Plus, it also meant I would be able to get a job and help my dad out.

I was clearing out my locker when I saw Cathy racing towards my locker with a huge grin on her face. "Em!" She shouted over the noise of the rest of the excited student body. "Hey Cat. What's with the grin? Got a hot summer fling already?" I asked smiling at her as she approached my locker. She glared at me trying to hold back a smile, "Hah! I wished. Can you believe by the end of summer we're gonna be seniors and then we will be free from this hell!" I just laughed and shook my head, "Slow down now, we still have to survive summer remember?" I said while slamming my locker shut. She pouted at me, " You mean more like I would have to survive this shit alone since you're gonna be too busy working your ass off to help me." she grumbled. "Cat you know how much I hate summers and I could really use the cash. Besides it's not like you're not gonna see me the entire summer." I said trying to make her feel better. "I know I know. We'll still hang out and blah blah blah. It just sucks that I can't do normal summer stuff with my bestie because she's against all things fun." She continued whining as we made our way to the school's car park. "Hey! I'm not against all things fun. It's just that I have different version of fun than everyone else around here." I defended myself. We got to Cathy's red Beetle and slowly drove away from Seafield High. "Yeah I know and that's one of the many reasons why I love you. Anyways did you get a summer job already?" she said as she drove in the direction of my house. I actually had just gotten a call confirming my summer job earlier this week. They were a local water sport shack down by the beach. Since I had all the qualifications they needed I was perfect for the job. Luckily for me it was pretty nearby my place. "I'm gonna be working at Rick's Water Sport Shack down at the beach." I answered her as she parked in my driveway. We made our way to my house. Dad wasn't home since he was at work. We headed into the kitchen where my dad had left a note on the fridge.

Hope it was a good last day at school.

Working the late shift tonight, someone called in sick; lucky me!

Go out and have some fun alright. Just try it; you never know you might like it.

Tell Cathy I said 'Hello'

Love always,

Daddy

I laughed at the note. "Cat my dad says 'Hello'." I told her as I walked into the living room with a bag of chips. "Haha it's like your dad has this place wired with CCTV’s; he always knew when I come over." Cat laughed with a mouthful of chips. I flipped through the channels finding something good to watch and settled for MTV's Indie playlist. "So Em you were saying that you got a job at Rick's Water Sport Shack down by the beach? As in Adam Gears dad Rick?!" She spoke getting louder and louder till she was practically screaming. I looked at her as though she had gone mad. "Who the heck is Adam Gears?" I asked her blankly. "How can you not know who Adam Gears is?! He is the most wanted guy in Seafield High, every girl wants to date him but he hasn't given a single one of them a chance ever since he broke up with Jessica Hunt the beginning of school year. He hardly talks to anyone in school accept for his best bud Chase Price who is a complete douche bag. Apparently she cheated on him while they were on break and he found out. She is still doing everything she can to get him back but he doesn't seem interested in anyone anymore. He's a complete mystery now." Cat just spat it all out like a high speed train. "Whoa whoa. Slow down Cat, how do you know so much about this guy? And why is everyone so crazy over him? This Chase Price, his best bud, isn't he that guy you were crazy about since you were freshmen? The one who used to leave you notes in your locker?" I looked at her completely amazed at her ability to know so much about a person I've never seen before. Now she looked at me as though I was the crazy one among the both of us. "Are you shitting me right now Em? Out of everything I've just told you all you got out of it was that idiot Chase Price?! Yes if you must know that's the very same Chase Price you and I are talking about. But what's more important is that you, Emma Fox will be working side by side with Adam Gears!" She screamed as she shook me hard. I just stared at her and shook my head. "You'll see what I mean on Monday." She giggled as she let go of me and ate more chips.
