Chapter 6 (Adam’s P.O.V)
I knew I was gonna be in for it when I reach the shack. “Adam where the heck were you? You’re 15 minutes late. What’s been going on with you lately? You’re usually the first to get here.” My dad said as I stepped behind the counter. “I’m sorry dad just got caught up this morning.” I told my dad. He looked at me trying to see if I was lying. “Son you know you can talk to your old man right if there is something on your mind.” I smiled and nodded at my dad. “Well then since you’re here now why don’t you head out back and help Logan and the new kid out? Oh and remember to be nice Adam.” I laughed, “Aren’t I always?” I called out to my dad. He just chuckled and went about his business.
I got to the back of the shack and saw Logan and a girl had their backs to me. I assumed the girl was the new part timer. I headed over to them and noticed that the girl looked really familiar. “Hey man. What’s up? Dad told me to help you out today.” I hollered to Logan. Logan turned to face me “Hey Adam. I was just showing the new kid the ropes around here. Oh I almost forgot. Adam meet Emma, our latest addition. Emma this is Adam, Rick’s son.” She turned to face me with a smile but it was quickly replaced with shocked and then disgust. “YOU’RE ADAM?! You’ve gotta be kidding me right?” She said as she looked back and forth towards Logan and me. I was just as shocked as her. She was the girl from this morning and she clearly hated me. “I thought you said you didn’t know who Adam was Em?” Logan spoke up breaking my trail of thoughts. “I don’t. This was the asshole that pissed me off this morning.” She replied giving me the stink eye. “Whoa who are you calling an asshole and don’t seriously tell me you don’t know who I am.” I said feeling a bruise on my ego. Emma was about to snap a comeback at me but Logan burst into laughter till he was rolling on the floor. We both looked at him like he was an idiot. “I’m sorry guys but it looks like it’s gonna be an interesting summer.” Emma rolled her eyes at Logan and held out a hand to help him up. She turned to face me and glared at me before walking into the shack. Logan just chuckled and went to catch up with her. I just stood there realizing that she was the first girl I’ve met that didn’t know who I was and I realized that I was glad she didn’t.
