I'm certain we've all been in a situation similar to this in one way or another in our lives: a situation where we were placed on the back burner (ignored, discarded) for someone better.
I apologize in advance if this sounds more like a whine than a rant.
To start off, a couple of examples of what this idiom means could be useful:
1) When you're walking and talking with somebody and they see another friend of theirs. Instead of adding them to the conversation they ditch you altogether and start up a new conversation with the other friend, leaving you as the third wheel.
2) When you've planned to hang out with somebody, but they cancel because someone more interesting ask to hang out with them at the same time your event was scheduled.
There are so many different situations I have been in where I was placed on the back burner, and those are only two of them.
Now, this type of thing may not phase other people because they're extremely sociable and confident and can get over it in no time. If you're one of those sociable people, I envy you. Others like me don't get over it so easily. Combined with the fact I have anxiety issues and am a complete pushover, the thought of being placed on the back burner makes me cringe.
It is the worst feeling in the world to have this happen to me, and others in the same pocket as I am can relate. Every time it happens I'm always left wondering "am i not interesting enough?" "maybe they've had enough of me." and other thoughts such as these.
What I hate even more is the fact that I physically can't do anything about it without throwing up my own words.
I know sometimes it's an accident and they don't mean to make you feel that way, but when it happens so many times that you think you have no friends, that is the point where it needs to stop.
Again, I apologize if this is whiny, redundant, and may not make much sense, but I had to let off that bit of steam.
Can anyone else relate to this?
