"Where the hell have you been?!"
Anna, standing in front of me in her night gown. She reminded me of my mother when I was younger and got home later than my curfew. It was 10 p.m.
"I was walking and thinking about everything.." I said meekly.
"Mark was here! He was wasted! He came barging on the door, yelling he wants to see you, talk to you! I thought he did something to you! Don't ever do that to me again!"
My heart was breaking but I found the strength to answer her.
"He would never do anything to hurt me! Never!"
I raised my index finger threateningly. She took a step back.
"Nothing except cheat on you, right? Oh, my sweet innocent Lena. How can you be so blind? He doesn't love you. He never did. You are nothing but an agreement in his eyes. Nothing but a instrument to obtain his wealth and power. Dear, you will be better off without him. Both you and your baby."
She came closer and tried to hug me. I saw James' stunned face and her smile approaching me. What the hell is this?! Where am I?
She laid her hands on my shoulders and I moved away. Her touch felt like destructive fire, ready to burn my body and melt all my feelings.
"Don't.. Don't touch me.."
She seemed surprised by my hostility.
"Lena.."
"I need to sleep and think about what you just said."
"I told you the truth!"
Her eyes searched for James'. She expected his support. And he just sat there, as shocked as I was. Suddenly, he stood up.
"You have really crossed the line this time. It's one thing to try to protect your friend but it's another thing to accuse someone for something you can't prove. I'll go be with my fraudulent, lying, pretending, wasted best friend. He needs me."
He stormed out. She deserved it.
"Lena.." her eyes filled with tears.
"Don't" I stopped her and left to my room.
After a rough night of rolling over and over thinking I looked like a piece of shit. I got dressed and put a hand on my stomach.
"I will always love you."
Anna was obviously asleep because no one yelled and stomped their feet. James wasn't here. I hope he is fine. I took a banana and drove to the hospital. Mark was standing by his car, hitting a rock with his foot. He seemed destroyed. Pale, drained face, black perfect suit and perfect shoes. Looking at his eyes made me realize this is not the man I married. This is a shabby copy of Mark Jepsen. He smiled weakly.
"Are you ready?" his voice was still melodic and his words could still heal all my wounds.
"Are you?"
He smiled and showed his beautiful teeth.
As we entered the elevator, I saw him squirming.
"I heard what happened yesterday" he said quietly.
"Where is James? He said he's going to your place."
"Don't worry. He is fine, he slept over and he will go home today."
The door opened and I saw a sign.
Dr. Evans.
I knocked and heard a squealing voice say: "Enter"
