Don't We All

I remember being twelve, and telling a friend I wanted to fly.

She shrugged her shoulders and said,

"Don't we all?"

Years later, I jumped, like we all do

Thinking he'd catch me,

Like he's supposed to do.

And I fell

Like I always do.

Lying on the ground,

I watched the world above me

With cracked lips and a bleeding heart.

"Don't we all."
