lorcan scamander was a shy and nervous wreck of a human being. people always used to say to him: you'll grow out of it, confidence comes with age. well, clearly they were wrong because lorcan still couldn't bring himself to ask their neighbours to give them his post when no one was home to get in in the first place. and then secondly when no one else was in their flat to do it for him. he still got scared when waiting for his boyfriend after hugo had finished his day at university if another person was stood next to him and tried to make conversation. and he was sick when he had to present something he had repressed from his memory when he was doing his a levels.

but his anxiety did come in other shapes and forms other than socially. such as yesterday when he had to take his driving test. for the 5th time because he had failed all the others. this was another form of his anxiety. and it didn't always show and didn't always surface in certain situations with certain requirements. one of those requirements being hugo.

his boyfriend, of one year and a half, had endlessly supported him and comforted him. he'd wait outside the room when lorcan was in his therapy sessions even when some were an hour long. he'd collect the post from the neighbours and he'd always tell lorcan that he didn't have to wait for him after university classes. but lorcan still showed up because he wanted to see hugo all the time, even if it was just that minute longer. hugo made things better, not perfect, but he helped.

for example, hugo had been on the phone just before lorc had to take the driving test. since the other times lorcan had taken his test, he wasn't dating hugo, or had only just started, he figured this time would be good. this time he would pass. and he did.

the consideration of this being the best thing that ever happened to him was negligible because lorcan knew what the best thing that happened to him was. he knew it was hugo. and he knew it always would be hugo.

and lorcan planned something special for if he passed his driving test. he'd planned to take hugo to the cafe in which hugo asked lorcan out they'd first started properly dating. fortescue's. he knew it was an easy walk, but the excitement of actually having a driver's license was too much and he now wanted to drive everywhere.

and there they were, in lorcan's car, which he could now legally drive without learner plates on. lorc made sure that hugo had no clue where they were going or what they were doing. it was a difficult feat because if hugo wanted to know something, he wouldn't ever stop until he figured it out. but this time, he had to admit defeat.

"lorc, you bloody twat. just tell me where the fuck we are going." hugo laughed, throwing a sweet at lorcan's face. he missed but it bounced off the window and landed in lorc's lap. hugo most likely found it on the floor as a packet of haribos had fallen under the passenger seat maybe two days ago; lorcan discovered he hadn't found them all. gross.

"i finally passed my test after five attempts and now you're gonna make me crash because my vision is being obscured by haribo eggs. if anything, you're the bloody twat here." lorcan jested, knowing that what he said would be taken as a joke.

everybody he knew was most likely offended by the jokes he made. he didn't make bigoted jokes because only twats do that. it was more the recipient not realising that his harshness was only said in a humorous matter rather than wanting to actually upset the person he was saying it to. but hugo got it. and that's what made lorcan love him more.

"you're lucky you have a great fucking arse, lorcan scamander."

"wow, i do love it when you compliment me, daddy, do it again. tell me more things you love about me." lorcan deadpanned, trying his best to stare at hugo without taking his eyes off the road.
