Levy and I went to my apartment and stored our dresses in my closet. We'd come back later to put them on before the dance.
"I never thought you go with Sting." Levy said, sitting cross-crossed on the floor. I sat across from her.
"Yeah, I hadn't either."
"But now that I think about it, you two would make such a cute couple! Back see the ship name now STINGLU!" She giggled.
I rolled me eyes but couldn't help blushing. There was a knock on the door. I told Levy I'd get it. She waited for me from where she sat and when I opened the door I was surprised to see Gray standing there looking a little down in he dumps.
"Gray, What's wrong?" I asked quietly so Levy wouldn't hear. I closed the door behind me, now it was just us in the hallway.
Gray looked up at me. "Lucy, I'm just going to say it."
I still didn't know what was wrong with him. His eyes looked full of worry.
"There's a couples dance that'll start in about an hour and there's something I've been trying to ask you."
Wait a second. I knew what was happening here. Oh no! Did Gray have feelings for me or something! I had never noticed! This is crazy! The thought had never even occurred to me!
Gray stepped closer to me. I backed away quickly a little startled at the idea of him asking me to a dance.
"Um, I'm really sorry about this Gray, but I'm already going to the dance with Sting. I can see you've probably been working up the courage to ask, but the answer is no because I don't feel the same about you if you really do like me that is. It's not that I don't like you an we still can't be friends, I just never knew you liked me like this before and wow. Does Juvia know? She'll kill me if-" I just stay rambling on and on. I'm having trouble closing my mouth.
"Whoa whoa whoa!" Gray jumps backwards. I immediately stop
"You thought I was about to ask you out and admit my feelings for you?"
I only stared at him. He buckled over laughing and I never thought I had felt more relieved.
Gray wiped the tears from his eyes and I had to say it felt good to see him laugh after so long.
"No. I was going to say...." He stopped in mid-sentence and the suspense was killing me.
"Did you say you were going to the dance with Sting?" He blinked a few times and I knew he must have thought he heard me wrong. I wish he had.
I gulped. "Yeah, about that. There's a lot to explain and I'll do that later. What were you saying?"
"Uh..." Gray looked like he was having trouble getting over the thought I was going out with Sting.
I really wanted to say. "So what? We're going on one date that isn't even real. We're only doing it for the money. It's not like he's my boyfriend!"
Gray shook his head. "Yeah, I was going to tell you....I was wondering if- wait a minute!" He broke off and stared at me with his eyes wide in both excitement and fear.
"Ugh! When will you tell me what you wanted to in the first place?" This was seriously getting really annoying.
"If you're going with Stung, then don't you know what-"
I interrupted him with a frustrated huff and a roll of my eyes. "Yes, I know. You think it's unbelievable how I'm going with Sting. Well, guess what. It's not that we like each other or anything, it's only because we both need the money."
