4: Maybe Elijah is right?

Y/n POV

"Heller?" I giggle as I answer the phone.

"Heller merk!!" Mia, who has talked to Mark a few times, called from her bed.

"Heyo merkimoo!" Elijah jumped on my back, pushing me down on the bed I was sitting on, squeezing laughter out of me.

"Wassup Mark!" Carter called from Mia's bed.

The four of us were in Mia and I's room. It's been a week since I've been here and Mark has called everyday. I haven't talked to Noah since he blew up at me about Jack. I still don't know where that came from.

Mark has talked to Mia, Elijah, and Carter a few times by now. He really enjoys talking to them. We FaceTimed him one time and Mia wasn't the only one who thinks Mark is hot. We still haven't told Mark that Elijah is gay. He won't let us. I've told him multiple times that he'll be fine with it but he doesn't want him, or anyone else, to know.

"Whats up ma dudes!" Mark laughed.

"The sky!" Carter answers.

"Okay, its getting scary how similar you are to Matthew" I say, sitting up straight after Elijah hopped off of me.

"I know right!" Mark gasps.

"Have no clue who Matthew is but i've been told that I was similar to him quite a few times now" Carter smiles.

"Thirteen to be exact" Elijah speaks.

"This is why I call you a number freak!"

"And I should call you arid"

"What?"

"I just called you deathly boring" Elijah rolled his eyes "read a dictionary"

"You read those things?!"

"Absolutely! Its my favorite thing to do when I'm bored"

I laughed, waiting for the others to join. I stopped once I realized no one was laughing. I looked at Elijah to see a serious face.

"Whats so funny?" Elijah raises and eyebrow.

"You're serious?" I ask, eyes widening.

"Why would I be joking about expanding my vocabulary? It can-"

"Alright, we don't need a whole lecture on what reading a dictionary can do" Carter interrupted Elijah.

"How is reading a dictionary fun?" Mark asks.

"I love learning" Elijah shrugs "I'm a very diligent and assiduous person and-"

"Rambling again!" Carter cuts in.

"You have to be seriously smart" Mark comments.

"Straight A's since first grade!" Elijah smiled proudly.

"You can't be serious" Mark gasps.

"As serious as I can get"

"Even in math?" Mia asks.

"Of course! I love math! Its my favorite subject. I actually want to become a math teacher"

"You aren't serious" I stare at him wide eyed.

"Of course I am"

I stare at him wide eyed as he chuckles nervously. The only question in my mind, how?

We talk for an hour before Carter and Elijah agree that it's getting late. After they left Mark, Mia, and I talked about random things. It was almost eleven when Mark brought up the same question he asks every day.
