Chapter Three

So, I've been working at the Ashford Inn for 4 and a half years now and its been going great. The pay is reasonable but a little poor if you ask me. The hours are good most of the time and well the costumes are usually nice, however you do get one of the 'head up their own arse' kind of people. The staff here are lovely as well and one of best mates work here along side me. Speaking of the devil...

When thinking of the a place to hide on my lunch break,I feel two strong jabs on each side of the hips. "OWW! why did you do that for?" I only no one person who does this. I turn swiftly around to see a old friend.

"Charlie! I thought you weren't going to back for another few weeks?"

I asked in confusion.

"Well I thought of coming back early to see my special lady" He said in a husky voice and a twinkle in his eye. My reaction to his words are in relief as I have one of oldest mates back.

"So are you working now or what?" I say in interest.

"No, I have two more days off, then back here on Tuesday" he informs me in a moaning low voiced tone.

"Anyway, how was your trip?" I ask.

Whilst he talks about his trip I drift away slowly becoming distracted by him. His copper hair shines from the hall lights and his eyes are like the iris sugar flower that I've always had a liking to. Having had feelings for charlie for sometime has made me realise that we won't be more than friends and I'm actually glad about that. Its better to be friends than something that may ruin are friendship forever.

Coming back to reality, charlie is still continuing his talk about his travels,so I decide to rudely interrupt.

"Hey, tell you what. why don't you tell me all about your trip in more detail later? when I'm off work?" saying this and placing my arms firmly onto his shoulders, his reaction is pleasant.

A corner grin is made by is mouth and a soft spark occurs in his eyes.

"okay we'll do that. What time do you finish?". He asks.

"7 O'clock, so I'll meet you at the Queen's Crown round about 7:30?" I suggested.

"Yes that's fine with me, I'll see you then then?". He replies.

As we create a warm hug between us, my 'fun' manager gives me a sharp glare across the room.

We release each other and Charlie moves away and towards the fire door. "7:30?" He asks with a wide smirk on his face.

"Yes" I reply in a cheery tone.

And he leaves whilst I keep my head down from the manger and get to work.

Work ends and I leave to go to the pub at 7:02pm. The night is closely coming alive with the street lamps flickering, smells of home cooked foods and the soft sounds of traffic along the roads silencing in my ears. I love the evenings, especially in the summer when the weather is warm and dry. Well...I say dry delicately. when I arrive at the Queen's Crown the noise of chatter and laughter amongst the people was joyous. I stroll across to the bar and I ask for a drink "beer please?". The barman casually eyes me up and down, judging my appearance. He does that a lot. I take a swig of my drink and analysis my surrounding's. A large group of elders in the corner, moaning about life and a pack of men on a stag do. However, further down the bar, a gentleman in a navy, sharp suit catches my eye. His mysterious looks entice me and I don't know why. Suddenly a loud distracting sound punches my ear. "Vic's!" I turn and Charlie comes up and gives me a gentle hug.

His long large arms rap round me like a blanket and as my left ear is pressed against his chests, I hear the sound of his heart beating softly. We begin to back off from each other and continue with the chat.
