november 9; morning

i sat in my desk, waiting for the bell to ring. people around me were chatting with their friends, preparing for class or just sitting in their desk, just like me. Jihoon was sitting next to me, busy on his phone. I didn't bother to take mines out as I was waiting for something to happen.

as if I had summoned it, the 2 people who walked into class was Jinyoung and Jihye, holding hands. she seemed to be laughing at something he said and he smiled back at her. but something didn't seem right. It felt like everything about them was fake but I no longer knew what was real or fake.

they had both taken their seats, jihye behind me and jinyoung into the far back of the room. i refused to look back at her, not wanting to make eye contact after what i had witnessed. if i wasn't so shy and had the courage to speak out, i would've asked her what exactly was her relationship with jinyoung. but i didn't, which sucks.

lunchtime;

lunch bell rang and the students started packing their bags, heading off to lunch with their friends and groups. i was taking my time in packing my things as i wanted to leave at the same time as jinyoung, wanting to get my questions answered.

he was at his desk, still focused on his belongings on his desk, not noticing my appearance. jihye has just left a few seconds after the bell had rung, giving me time to talk to jinyoung individually. waiting for him to finish, he finally looks up, seeing me.

"oh, jiyoon, i didn't see you there."
"can i ask you questions?"
"i mean i guess."
"great let's go to the rooftop."

without waiting for his response, i had already started to make my way to the staircase leading to the rooftop.

within a few minutes, i reached the rooftop and settled on a spot on the ground. it was a bit cold but i didn't mind it at all as my curiosity was starting to kill me. all i wanted was jinyoung to answer my questions and i would be alright.

he came shortly after me, surprised at how fast i had arrived. he sat down next to me, wanting to get in a comfortable position.

"first question, what is your relationship with jihye?"
"i don't think i should answer that right now."
"fine then, second question, who is this Kim Sohee girl?"
"Kim Sohee? her name sounds familiar but i don't know about that?
"everyone that i've been going to says her name sounds familiar or they just can't tell me. don't be one of those people."
"ah yes i remember now. Kim Sohee was your best friend before she...passed away.."

i tried my best to process what jinyoung had just told me. kim sohee, my best friend that passed away? i don't remember having a friend like her. or do i? i still don't know but at least i got my questions answered. i thanked him and got up, ready to leave.

dusting myself off, it gave jinyoung a chance to grab my wrist. i was taken off guard and i didn't even know the reason for this sudden action.

"jiyoon, i need to tell you something."
"...proceed"
"i li-"
"jinyoung!there you are."

looking towards the direction of the voice, i see jihye standing there, with a worried look on her face. she made eye contact with me for a split second and she didn't look pleased with the scene in front of her. but then again, what was her relationship with jinyoung?

questions arose as i looked at the 2. jihye was busy trying to drag jinyoung down with her and i just stood there. but then i remembered what jinyoung wanted to say to me before it got interrupted.

"jinyoung."

as i called his name, he looked at me with confusion and jihye didn't even bother looking back, not that it mattered. it seemed as if she wanted to get out of that place as fast as possible.

"yeah?"

it was time to hear what he has been wanting to say.

"these past few weeks, it seems like you've been wanting to say somethine to me? mind saying it now?"

jinyoung seemed to be thinking about whether to say it now.

"i...i can't say...it now...sorry."

he escaped jihye's grip and ran downstairs. she glared at me, chasing after him, leaving me on my own on the rooftop. after all that, it felt good to be alone in a place i dreaded the most.

it came to an end when i had been discovered by someone.

"jiyoon, is that you?"

i turn around to see jihoon, the one person who i had forgotten about during this whole lunch time.

"uh, i don't mean to interrupt anything but the bell rang and if you don't want to be late to class. i suggest leaving now."

he started to walk down to our next class and i followed him shortly after.

after school;

after a long day, we were all able to head home. i wasn't really feeling in a good mood so i didn't stay after school. i know jihoon was for whatever reason but i didn't feel like staying with him either. on my way to my house, i had seen yomi and ran to her.

"yomi!"
"oh jiyoon-ah."

it hasn't been a long while since i've seen her but it felt great to see someone who i feel comfortable with. the last time i saw her was when i had asked her about Sohee.

"what brings you to me?"
"i don't wanna go home yet. can i go with you?"
"sure."
