Falling in a pit of darkness, Pilo frantically waved his hands searching for something to hold on to. Weightlessness in the pit of his stomach gave him the only clue to let him know he fell through the vastness. Several seconds went by before he grew calm to the state of nothingness he found himself in. Taking deep breaths, he tried to assess his situation. Rotating in circles gave him a full view of the full darkness surrounding him. While spinning, something finally caught his eye. Waving his hands, Pilo steady himself so he could focus on the approaching figure.

Large wings flapped, bringing the figure closer to Pilo's location. The closer the figure got, the larger it became. When it doubled Pilo's size he grew nervous seeing the body of a bat. The enormous bat flew toward Pilo, and stopped in front of him. Pilo brought his arms up to prepare for an impact that never happened. Deep in the blackness of the pit, they hovered next to each other, looking each other in the eyes. Pilo feared an attack, but the longer time passed, he felt the bat didn't pose a threat. In the nothingness, he studied the animal that floated before him.

Pilo blinked, and the bat disappeared. A vision of himself now floated before him. It was a remarkable thing to see. He had never been able to look at himself from afar. Distracted at the ability to inspect the image of himself, it took him a while to notice what eyes he used. Out of his peripheral vison he noticed a wing tip move back and forth. The action made his heart race. It had been a long time since he had felt a heartbeat. Closing his eyes he enjoyed the blood pumping through veins. Warmth returned to him, giving him piece. He sunk into the feeling, forgetting about the predicament scaring him only minutes ago. Noises outside of his self, brought his attention back to the darkness.

Opening his eyes, he noticed his body moving erratically. His arms waved back and forth, and a shrieking scream came from his throat. The cold dead cursed body the bat found itself in made it difficult to accept the change. Realizing their beings had switched hosts, Pilo thought hard about connecting with his body. While meditating about returning to his self, Pilo connected with the animal controlling his body. With their minds connected, he focused on sending calming thoughts to his scared partner. Soothing the state of the bat took a while. Pilo tried with all his energy to make the bat realize harm would not be brought to it. Concentrating on them being one, finally relaxed the bat allowing them to connect. Once they connected, Pilo snapped back into his body before being yanked from the bat's location.

When the bat disappeared from view, he came to a stop. Over his shoulder, two large old, female hands came in to view. Turning himself around, Pilo saw the hands waving over a large iron pot. The hands moved in cadence with steam rising from the pot. Pilo shot up into the darkness, above the pot, before being pulled into the steam. He fell deep into the steam before he shot back up through the air. Exiting the iron pot, he rode a wave of steam toward the bat returning to his vicinity. The bat's size doubled again, and the fear controlled its actions. Under the control of the steam, Pilo swayed through the darkness toward the frantic bat. Exposed teeth made Pilo nervous as he couldn't control his movements. The steam flowed over the bat's teeth and deep into his lungs. Unable to control his direction, Pilo helplessly flew into the bat's mouth. Beyond the teeth, Pilo closed his eyes and prepared to be swallowed whole.

Landing on a solid surface, hard, let Pilo know he didn't fall into the bat's stomach. Opening his eyes, he found himself still in the darkness, with a door standing in front of him. Above the door, hanging from a chain extending off into the darkness, a small lamp illuminated the door. Standing up on the nothingness surrounding him, he looked the door over as he began walking closer. Turning the handle, he found it unlocked. When he cracked the door open, a force from the other side forced it all the way open. On the other side of the door, a distorted cloud of white, gray, and black whipped through the air on the other side. Placing his hand through the doorway, Pilo took a minute to feel the force of the cloud. Looking behind him, Pilo knew the only direction to go would be forward.
