"Time for dinner (y/n)!" You could hear your mother yelling from the kitchen downstairs.

"Yes ma'am! I'll be down in a bit!" You shouted back as you set your phone down on your bedside table. As you came out of your room, you walked down the stairs and to the table, taking your seat near your mother's seat which was placed at the head of it. Your siblings and father were already at the table eating.

Your younger brother, Arken, sat across from you. He had curly red hair and beautiful blue eyes, but he was incredibly arrogant and obnoxious. He looked at you mockingly as you sat down at the table. You tried not to look at him, so your gaze wandered over to your older sister, Destiny. Unlike Arken, her hair was a bit wavy and a chestnut brown while her eyes were a warm golden colour, just like your mother.

Destiny ignored you along with everyone else by putting an earbud in both ears. Arken, looked up at you and laughed as he flung a forkfull of food at you as it hit your shirt and fell down onto your lap.

Your mother brought your plate along with hers and sat down. She shook her head as she handed you a napkin to clean the food from your lap. "Arken, stop it." She said sternly, but as arrogant as your little brother was, he just rolled his eyes and sloppily took another bite of food.

Your father quietly ate his food as his face rested in constant boredom. He never really spoke to you unless he was yelling or he needed you to do something around the house. You've known him your whole life but this was the only side you've ever really seen of him. You looked over to see your mother eating her food but she had a strange look in her eyes. Maybe something was just wrong with her medications. She had been on them for about a year now; she started going to a counselor in complaints of hallucinations and strange dreams. It scared you a bit sometimes because at random moments, she would look behind you in horror as if she had seen a ghost; she was just schizophrenic and had been since she was a teenager according to your grandparents. They said that she saw a strange man that would always give her compliments and was almost always "around", yet she was the only one who could see him.

After Destiny had finished her food and gone back upstairs, your mom began to shake as she dropped her fork and looked behind you. You disregarded it and your father shook his head, not bothering to look up. Instead, you looked over to Arken who was surprisingly sitting with wide eyes, apparently scared at something while he was staring behind you as well. Maybe it was just a bug or something...or maybe he's finally inherited the family's crazy.

"What are you looking at?" You asked curiously as there was a hint of fear in his eyes. He nodded his head as if he was agreeing with someone, but it didn't seem like it was directed towards your comment. Your mother put a hand on your shoulder and seemingly forced herself to stop shaking as she gave you a smile. It didn't really look too genuine...

"Honey, maybe you should go get ready for work. It's getting pretty late, huh?" She asked you as she stood up and took both of your plates. She cane back to get Arken's as well and patted his back, his face still looking terrified.

"Uh, alright. I guess you're right." You replied hesitantly and stood up, pushing your chair back under the table and walking upstairs. As you were walking up the stairs to the room you and Destiny shared, you could here your mother mumbling something to Arken and saw your father sitting alone at the table. It was a bit strange, but then again, so is this family.

You walked into the room and Destiny was curled up in the corner of her bed, against the wall like she always was. You changed into a completely tan outfit, as it was the uniform that the zoo required you to wear for work. They had stuck you on the night shift because it was very noticeable that you had trouble talking to people, even your own family, and they wanted friendly and outgoing workers to attract more customers during the day. Your job was to make sure that all of the animals were secure and to report back to security through radio if something was wrong. There were really only about three each night when the zoo closed for the night. Tonight, your boss had already told you that only one would be able to make it for reasons that he didn't specify, but not much could go wrong, right? With everything ready for work, you grabbed your cell phone and keys and left.

Before you left, Arken stopped you by the door and looked into your (e/c) eyes with his shifting around the room as he spoke, "Be careful, please." You nodded your head even though you were very confused by this, but shrugged it off and made your way to work.
