It begins.
A rare rhythm of popping pipes and thudding paws and feet arises from above. A bark here and a bang there weave into the mix.
His door slams—my cue to stand by the window with a steaming mug of coffee under my nose.
Dog emerges first; yellow parka follows. Dog does his business; yellow parka kicks snow. Dog chases him; yellow parka laughs. Typical show until he slips and lays motionless—that’s atypical.
I run out in boxer shorts and boots. Yellow parka smiles and delivers the closing line.
