The fur-lined shawl slipped past her shoulders, making her shiver against the swirling wind and snow.
"We need to go."
"A bit longer."
He had promised to do it every year, and every year she waited at the same cliff overlooking the courtyard.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and knew it was time.
They began to walk to the edge of the cliff towards the sea. She turned for a final farewell only to see the lanterns being lit one by one. Content that he still hadn’t forgotten her after all these years, she stepped off the cliff.
