CHAPTER 6 - THAT'S WHEN EVERYTHING GOES WRONG

Mary's POV

"Maddy's  gonna kill you when she finds out.", Sydney says once we've stopped contemplating where Harry might take me for the date. She's leaning against the locker next to mine as I take out my books. 

"Ya well, I would've told her today but she bunked.", I shrug," We could go today at her place and tell her. Besides, there won't be people around if she starts yelling. Also, pillows won't hurt as much as soda cans. You know in case, she throws stuff."

"Sounds like a plan. We could take chocolate ice-cream as peace offering."

"Yes, deal. Meet outside her place at 4. Okay?"

"Okay."

Just then the bell rings and we head towards our classes.

"Aw, man. I have Spanish. Señor Gozalez and Monday mornings? Deadly combination."

I grin. This is why I like Sydney. She's so level-headed about stuff. If she hates you, you can't change that. But if she loves you, you're the luckiest person on the Earth. She didn't  fumble around with feelings. She understood what she felt for a person.

"See ya after this death class if I'm alive.", she says before she goes in her class. I roll my eyes at her before I head for French. Its the only class in which I sit alone because both Sydney and Maddy had opted for Spanish.

I went over and sat on one of the last benches and put on my earphones with Mean, by Taylor Swift blasting in my ears put my head down and relaxed.

 Then I feel the chair beside me shift and feel someone sit down beside me. I look up to see a guy's back facing me as he rummages around in his bag for something. And then he turns and looks at me. He smirks.

"Hello, mystery girl. Heard you visited Spain?", Alec says as he settles down in his seat beside me. Typical. I'm in a cranky mood and I find myself seated next to the epitome of annoyance.

For those of you who don't know, Alec Hemsworth id the bad boy of Lakefeild High and the world's most big-headed idiot. He's quarter back on football team and also the captain.

"That's old news lover boy.", I say as I roll my eyes." Where were you?Haven't seen you since term started."

"You're talking as if it's been a month, sunshine. Its been only three days. Plus I have other things to worry about."

"Like what?"

"Oh, like mending my broken heart."

"Oh" I exclaim as he nods," Linda break up with you again?" 

Linda Wilson, the 'it' girl of Lakefeild. Lead cheerleader, wears clothes only what's absolutely necessary not more than that. Dream girl for every guy, you get the idea. So, basically she and Alec had this thing going like they dated for like a month then broke up for sometime, and then got back together. And there was only one rule, when they were with each other, they couldn't be with anyone else, but in their break-up period, they could do whatever they like with whoever they want. No commitments.  

"Oh, I wonder what gave that away?", he says sarcastically," The fact that she was making out with your brother the other day in full view to the whole cafeteria or that I slept with Jade last night?" Yes, the girl making out with my brother had been Linda and the girl I hate the most is also Linda.

"Uh", I wrinkle my nose in disgust, "Could  you not mention the details of girls you sleep with, please?"

"Hey! I didn't give details at all. All I told you was her name and that is not-"

"Mr.Hemsworth , Ms. Styles, could you please tell us what is so important that it can't wait till after class?", our french teacher interrupts us.

Here we go again.

"No", both of us say together. He rolls his eyes and says his usual line,"Detention again"

And we're out of our seats before he even completes it.

At lunch, Alec joins me and Sydney for lunch which is not a surprise. Every time he breaks up with Linda, he comes to  sit with us to avoid her rather than sitting on 'the' table. He kind of grew fond of me when I helped him out with Chemistry once. He's slept with Maddy but both of them are friends and agreed that they don't care about it. But me and Sydney, he lays off us, thinks of us as his sisters.

 Then, I feel the chair next to me shift and I see a hooded figure sit next to us. He takes off his hood as he puts his tray down. I'm face to face with Harry Miller.

"Harry?", Sydney exclaims.

"Shh...I'm incognito", he whispers.

"Right, and I'm a big buffoon.", Alec says as he rolls his eyes.

"That you are", Sydney and I say together and he just frowns.

"What do you want, Miller?", Alec says.

"Same as you", Harry says as he sips on his Coke can.

"Listen, Miller. You want to talk to me. We'll talk later when I'm not with the girls."

"Why would he want to talk to you, you big buffoon. He would want to talk  to Mary, right? Come on let's leave them alone", Sydney interjects as she tries to pull him away. But Alec resists and keeps on asking questions.

"Why would he want to talk to Mary?", he says his frown deepening. 

"Oh, let me guess to discuss their date.", Sydney says sarcastically," Now, come on." She tries to drag him again, failing miserably.

"What date are we talking about, Mary?" 

His voice is calm but there is a steely edge to it.

"Alec, its just a date. He asked me to a date and I said yes.", I said

"Wait, a date? As in its your first?"

  "Yes. What did you think?", I see the tension relieve in his face when I say it.

"Oh, I thought you found a boyfriend without my approval. How silly of me."

"Your approval?", I laugh," Okay, so does he have your approval if you know in future, we kind of get together, my lord?", I ask mockingly.

"Yes, he does. Miller, take care of my baby sister." And I pout and all of us laugh.

And ladies and gentlemen, that's when everything goes wrong.
