Chapter 7

WILL kept out of Nico's business for the rest of the day. He didn't know how to feel about Nico. When he told Will about his mutism, Will could tell he was uncomfortable, so he decided to give him space. But tomorrow, he is coming to Nico with so much friendship, he'll suffocate.

The day went by pretty uneventful, class by class. And then he went home. Now, let me tell you about the mess he walked into, or I guess, the mess that he didn't walk into. The house was fully cleaned, not a box in sight. Now, this was surprising to him 'cause his dad was very lazy, and honestly makes his kids do everything for him, and his mom was looking for a job, so she couldn't have done it.

He went up to his dad. "Did you unpack everything?"

His dad, Apollo, looked back at him and said, "Oh gods no, I got my sister to help." Will remembered that his aunt lives near here.

"Well, why is everything put away? Like, what's the hurry?"

"Oh, I invited the neighbors over." This caught Will by surprise, his dad never voluntarily invited people over, it's never in his pride to show hospitality to anyone except for his wife, sister, and children. "I suppose you've already met some of them, they go to your school after all. But their dad, Hades, was a friend from collage. I thought it would be nice to catch up on his life, ya know?"

Oh so Nico's dad and my dad were friends... who would've thunk?

"Well, need any help?" Will asked.

"No, I should be good. Go do your homework or something."

Will didn't have any homework to do, so he just went into his room. He read a book to keep himself busy, and about 2 hours the doorbell rang and his father called him down.

The Di Angelo's were already in the living room, Apollo and Nico's dad were chatting up a storm, and Hazel and Nico sat on the couch. Will went up to the two.

"Hey guys!"

Hazel looked up at him, "oh, hi Will!"

Nico gave Will a little nod as if he were saying "sup".

"I had no idea that you guys were coming over today. My dad only told me about 2 hours ago."

"We had no idea either until our dad said to get dressed and go outside," Hazel said with a smile. Will gave a awkward laugh. They sat in silence for a while. Will noticed that Nico had a notepad with him.

"So Nico, how are you? We didn't really see each other after second period."

'I'm fine,' Nico wrote on the paper.

"That's good." More awkward silence was upon them until Apollo spoke up.

"So how about we go to the dining room?!"

Everyone silently agreed.

The dinner wasn't ready yet, so while Apollo made the food, everyone else chatted amongst themselves, except for Nico, for obvious reasons.

20min felt like hours, but Apollo finally came out with dinner. He made steak, because he always has to be extra. Apollo talked to Hades while they ate.

So, Hades, how have you been? Gods how long has it been? 20 years?" Apollo bombarded Hades with questions.

"I've been good, I'm currently on my 3rd marriage though."

"Wow, your third!?"

"Ya, my first wife died when Nico was 10," Nico flinched when he said this," made 2nd wife left me, and my third wife is at work."

"Wow, you've been busy."

"Ya."

"Might I ask how your first wife died?"

"Uh," Hades looked at Nico, then back at Apollo, "She died in a car accident, along with my oldest daughter. Nico was the only one to survive."

Suddenly, Nico got out of his chair and stormed out of the room. Hazel got up to follow him, and Will decided to follow her. Will found Hazel with her arms around Nico.

Will came up behind them, Nico had his head in his hands. "Is he alright?" Will asked Hazel.

"He will be," Hazel said bluntly.

Hades came out of the dining room while telling Apollo that they better go. As they were walking out the door, Will gave Nico a little wave, Nico looked at him then looked away, giving him no acknowledgement.
