Jax woke up to Leon packing up the camp, he looked awful, like he hasn't slept well. "Hey are you okay?" Jax said sleepily.
"Yeah, I've just been up for a while.." Leon trails off.
"What's up kid?"
"I've realized that I could die on this trip, this could be my last adventure.." Leon wipes his eyes and looks at the floor.
"Kid I'm not letting you die, you'll make it out of this.. I promise." Jax speaks in a low tone.
Leon bites his tongue and continues to pack up the camp, in about an hour he was finished. Leon didn't say another word until he was dressed and ready to leave the first floor.
"Ready Jax?"
"Yeah, let's go."Jax goes to the door and opens it to see a beautiful blue light, if there was a heaven this is what it'd look like, marble floors and pillars, stone walls with some kind of golden sparkle to it, and torches on those walls with blue flames. It was breathtaking.
Leon walks into the room and takes out his sword, Jax does the same with a look of awe on his face. Leon suddenly tenses up and slashes upward and they hear a loud roar from above them.
"Jax it's above us! Kill it!!" Leon sounded genuinely scared, like he's seen it before. Leon falls on the floor and holds up his sword in defense, "JAX MAKE IT GO AWAY" Leon was screaming.
Jax prepared himself and attacks the small beast, it looked like a giant worm with teeth, it smelled awful, it had a dark purple slime coming off of it. He screamed as he cut into the slime filled leech.
It burst into glimmering golden light and disappeared. It was dead.
"Leon are you okay?" Leon was sweating and crying, he was curled in a ball cursing. He was terrified.
I was playing in the fields outside of Kalm, it was a warm summer day, the long grass tickled my knees under my shorts, the breeze was soft and kind. I was happy. The creek was only about five minutes from me and I couldn't wait to get into the icy cold water and away from the summer heat. I heard something behind me but I ignored it because I thought it was my older brother, my family was already at the creek and I was only late because I had to finish my work.
I arrived at the creek and saw only blood in the usually beautiful blue water, I looked around for my mother and brother but only saw their clothes and blood. I turned around and saw a leech like creature with purple slime and teeth the size of my legs, I saw my families blood on it's mouth. I fell into the creek and was taken downstream and left alone. I was an orphan now..."Leon!?" Jax was yelling and trying to wake him up.
It was night and Jax had taken care of all the beasts on the floor, he was just worried about leon because he passed out after seeing the first monster, by the time Leon was up Jax had defeated the beasts, cleaned up, and set up camp. Dinner was ready and simmering.
"W-What happened..?" Leon sounded like he swallowed a ton of dust and hadn't had water in months.
"After the beasts showed up you panicked then passed out, I defended your body and killed all the beasts then I carried you to where the camp would be and took care of you." Jax handed him a water bottle and Leon drank it all as quickly as he could. "The beasts must have triggered you into a shock."
Leon looked down in shame and spoke quietly, "I-I'm sorry.. I'm dragging you down, like I told you I wouldn't.." He starts crying.
Jax picked him up and held him against his chest as he sobbed, "Hey Leon it's okay I'm not upset."
Leon looked up, "Do you promise..?"
"Yes, I promise"I always forget that Leon isn't my age, he's only a kid not more than ten or eleven years old, I kinda feel bad for the kid... I'm going to protect him until the very end. Thats a promise.
