The counter curse.
The counter curse.
The counter curse.

We could do it.

And the charm bracelet was supposed to be the replacement for the amulet. The amulet, after all, did belong to Master Heldies as mentioned by Orcus in the black book. Although the bracelet stopped glowing seconds after, I was pretty sure by then that my assumption was correct. All that needed to be done was to use it and perform the said counter curse.

In no time, I had dashed to the other three in the cafeteria.
'What took you so long?' Zayla asked as soon as she saw me.
'Nothing much. Just Tyler again.' I replied.
Jake snapped out of whatever he was doing.
'Now what did he want?' Luke asked in his stead.
'He just wanted to give me this.'
I showed them the charm bracelet.

'Woah, that is pretty.' Zayla said, taking it and slipping it on.
'He just gave that to you? And you took it?' Luke said.
'Well . . . he looked like he was gonna burst into tears if I refused.'
'You did thank him, right? Because this must be quite expensive.' Zayla said, examining the thing.
'I did. But that's not the point.' I said, 'It glowed!'
'Glowed?' Luke asked.
'Just like the amulet did in my trance.' I continued.
'Wait a second, oh my god!' Zayla exclaimed.
'Are you thinking what I'm thinking?' I asked.
'Definitely. Did you ask him where he got this?'
'Wait, no!'
'Go ask him that, you dummy!'
'What are you girls thinking?' Luke interrupted, 'That's the amulet's descendant or something?'
'Seriously, Luke? You can never phrase things properly, can you?' Zayla scoffed.
'Wait, are you sure it glowed, Valerie?' Jake said suddenly.

'A hundred percent.' I said.

'Hm, then maybe I can go easy on him.' Jake muttered, 'If he can help you, there's no need to stop him from doing that, right?'
'Thank you! You finally understand what I meant and wanted.' Zayla said.
Jake eyes still retained the coldness in them though.
'I'll go ask Tyler-'
'When are you gonna tell him about your curse then?' Jake interrupted me with a dubious smirk.
'I highly doubt he's gonna run away screaming if he learns that he might die if he gets any closer to Valerie.' Zayla stated calmly.
'But it's not like we won't let him know.' I said.
'I don't think it would be necessary though.' Zayla said.
'Seriously, Zayla, what is your point?' Jake said.
'Never mind my point. He'll get to know soon enough.' She replied, 'Why don't you do it, Valerie?'
'Of cou-'
'Alone.' She added.

I raised an eyebrow,
'Whatever.'

I looked around the cafeteria. Tyler was not there.
'I'll do it when I meet him again then.' I said.
'Why does she need to do it alone though?' Luke murmured.
'Let's just give the both of them some space now.' Zayla said.
'I seriously don't understand what you want, Zayla.' Jake said.
'Oh, you don't need to.' She turned her back on them and gave me a knowing smirk.
'Let's just go and continue studying, shall we?' I suggested after a moment.
'Ah, you're right.' Luke agreed, 'I need that A in english.'

Since no classes were being held, we packed into the library and spent the rest of the day memorizing English prose and Shakespeare's lines. All the studying however did not take us too long.
After we were done-
'Zayla did you figure out the counter curse?' I perked up.
'Hey! Don't take things for granted. I have zero practice in dark magic. Don't believe everything the black book said.' Zayla replied.
'So you didn't figure it out.' I said, losing the happy tone in my voice.
'You know- you . . . . . . . . No.' Zayla replied with boredom, 'I didn't.'
I pursed my lips.

'I just can't seem to understand any of it.' Zayla began, Jake and Luke stared at her, 'The spirits are reverting. I can't find any more codes in the forbidden book. And . . . . . . . I dunno what to do.'
'Just give it some time.' Jake said.
'You'll figure it out.' Luke placed a hand on her shoulder.
Zayla shrugged,
'What have we got so far?'
'So far, we know who performed the curse, why it was performed, on whom it was performed, how it was possibly performed, and who all were involved. We already knew the conditions and side effects of the curse.' I said, ' I think.'
