Arguing with girls was so not my thing.
In fact, I found arguing with boys way easier. Especially girls like Zayla can be so troublesome. I thought I wouldn't have to talk to her for the rest of the day but I was wrong of course. Zayla kept showing up before me even though she always had this expression like I was trash. Moreover, in English class, she deliberately forced me to be her partner, which was very surprising for the other students of course. She was one of the worshipped girls in the school and I was just a girl wearing a black hoodie.
I rolled my eyes at her own stupidity. If she didn't want anyone to pay any attention to me, then why the heck was she even talking to me, let alone allowing me to be her partner, when she had a so called reputation to maintain? I realized I'll probably never understand people like her.
Her main reason for partnering with me was just to make me do all her work. It was probably her weird way of taking revenge, I guess. I mean, she could just make any other guy do the project for her but she chose me just so that she could satisfy herself by blabbering on about how much she hated it when Jake kept on following me around.
'In the beginning, I really thought that you had some strange power within you which you used to tempt Jake. I found that horrendously uncool.' Zayla said.
'I'm surprised you can say something like that with such a straight face.'
'You know about me now. Oh and by the way, you can't reveal anything about anything I told you. I know Jake won't.'
'Whoops, too late for that.' I put up a daunting facade.
But I mean, how much stupider can she be?'Whatever the hell do you mean?' She questioned.
'I already informed half the school about how you know witchcraft.'
'Ha ha ha. You're so intimidating.' She said in the dullest tone possible.
'I really am intimidating. You don't know me.'
'Oh yeah? Tell me about it.'
'So now you're gonna pretend that you know everything about me?'
'I kinda do. And the rest, I've already learned from my grandma.'
At this, I finally looked up from the work I had been doing and glanced at her. Her voice had suddenly become kinda despondent and she had a different expression on her face, not the usual confident and arrogant one.
I looked down and started scribbling away on some papers again.'Hey,' Her eyes had been staring elsewhere until then, but suddenly, she turned them towards me.
I faced her again,
'What?''I'm sorry.'
Huh?
Did I hear that right? She read my expression and continued,
'There, I said it.'
I kept staring at her,
'Why?'
'What do you mean? I'm apologizing, duh!'
'Why are you apologizing to me?'
Zayla bit her lip momentarily. Her voice wavered,
'I don't know, I just-' She paused, 'I have a lot of reasons for apologizing, I guess. Some of them you already know. And a few, that I don't want to tell you about.' She flipped her gaze towards the front of the classroom.I was almost done with the English project we were given and after writing down our names, I went over and submitted it to our english teacher.
'You can go sit with your friends now.' I told Zayla as I fiddled through my bag to find a pencil. A few more minutes were left for the class to end and I had finished the work for both of us so she had no reason to sit with me for those last few minutes.'Nah, I'm good.' Zayla replied with clear boredom.
Wait, what?
'Huh, I really wasn't expecting that.' I said in a teasing tone to drive her away.
I was starting to panic now. Zayla seemed like she wanted to talk to me. She seemed like she was on the verge of becoming friendly with me. Although I wasn't too sure about that. But I wasn't going to let anything like that happen anyway. Her eyes seemed troubled and she didn't have her blonde hair flowing open like she usually did.
And I'm pretty sure I've already told you about how I like to observe people and things around the place and so I easily noticed the change when Zayla walked in at school in the morning with her beautiful hair tied back in two ponies. The popular girls were all visibly shocked and became more agitated when they saw her walk right past them and straight towards us. That was probably the only reason a few of them were jeering at her behind her back.
And that was probably the only reason Zayla decided to stay away from them for the day. Or at least, that's what I thought.
