Chapter 15

Today is the day that our 'Florida Plan' will sprout to life. Crischen kept his word and left us alone for 6 days. The nurses gave us a calendar. Today was Saturday, June 14. We've been here for 12 days. I wonder if my mom has heard of us being trapped. Probably not. She's all the way in West Virginia, and I'm in California somewhere. Do I tell her about my experience when I come back home in August?

Shawn knew I'd been left alone to my thoughts for too long, because he came around behind me and wrapped his long arms around my thin waist.

"Watcha thinking about, Katie?" He asked casually. I shrugged and leaned into his body.

"Just anything." I replied coolly. He nodded as Aaron called his name.

"Shawn! Come here and look!" The nurse had been here for an hour taking out his stitches, and she had just now gotten done on his back. I felt really bad for Aaron. At least he was better.

Shawn unwrapped himself from around me and walked across the room to where Aaron stood, twisting his body in the mirror to see his back. The only reminder of stitches was the little scabs they left in his pale skin. Miranda was talking to the nurse, so I walked over to them to join their conversation. We had really become close to our nurses. They had turned into sisters for us.

"...you do it?" I heard Mir whisper when I walked over. The dim lighting didn't allow me to be able to read her expression clearly. I really hated not having any windows, and the colors of the room gave me headaches. I sat next to her on the bed.

"Can she do what?" I asked slowly. Miranda looked at me and smiled.

"I told Audra about our plan on Wednesday, then asked her if she could get the maids to help us escape. Most of them want to help, but they are hesitant because of Crischen and his powers." She explained. I nodded.

"All we want to do is leave, don't you? You could get the job you want." A while back, she told me that Crischen had kidnapped her and forced her to work for him. He isn't just interested in Magcon profits, he's interested in more. All he wants is power and money.

"I know. But he will kill all of us if this doesn't work out." Audra said, wringing her hands in her lap.

"That's why we're going to kill him, too." Miranda reminded her. We knew that he wouldn't leave straight away, so Audra and hopefully the rest of the maids and guards will help us sneak out and destroy Crischen and his 3 friends. Everyone that works for Crischen but those 3 friends wants to kill him. Even the guards want to plant a bomb on his chest. They were also forced into Crischen's system.

"I know... I'm just nervous." Audra said, burying her face in her veiny hands. I patted her back softly.

"We are too. But we know this will work. We'll tell Crischen our false plan, and you told us he'd be too busy preparing for their departure to pay any attention to us. The guards will help us take down the enemies. And there's only a handful of rebels that won't correspond with us, so we can take them down easily. You can even stay with us when we get out of here, and help give us information to the police and FBI. We will make it through this together. I promise." I hugged her, then waited for her response.

"Okay... let's do this shit." She told me, a steel expression overtaking her face. I smiled and clapped her shoulder.

"Good girl. Now let's run over the plan with the rest of-" I was cut off when two guards entered the room with Crischen. A lump formed in my throat and I became extremely nervous. I looked at Shawn and he nodded to me slightly.

"So do you young people want to cooperate today?" Crischen said calmly. The guards went over to the door and smiled at us before they left. Oh my God, I'm about to piss my pants. I took a deep breath then remembered our plan.
