"You've been acting strange (F/N)-san." Midoriya leans closer, and you back away, your cheeks on fire.
Uraraka tilts her head to the side. "Is something wrong?"
"No, I just," you glance over at Midoriya, then quickly look away. "I haven't been feeling well."
"Maybe you should stay home," Iida says. "I mean, you're face is super red these days."
You blush even harder, but cover it up with a cough. "Sick. That's it."
Midoriya sighs. "I'll let sensei know—"
"I'm fine, really." You scoot further away from them, leaning your back against the wall. Uraraka stares at you intensely for a moment, her lips pursed. Slowly, a smile sleeps through her face, that kind of mischievous grin you get when you eat the last piece of gum.
"I get it now." Uraraka leans against the wall next to you, nudging your shoulder. "(F/N)-chan found someone she likes."
You gnarl your teeth and shove your back to her. "That's not it."
"But—"
"Just shut up!" you shout. "You're starting to get on my nerves."
Uraraka is noiseless for a moment. Then a few sniffles sweep through the air, and the redness is stripped from her cheeks. "Did I do something?"
You clench your fists at your side and spin around. "You don't even care about schoolwork, do you? You just goof off all the time like nothing matters!"
"I do care about grades!"
"Yeah?" You frown until your head is pounding. "I've never even seen you touch a book!"
Midoriya laughs nervously. "Guys? I think—"
Uraraka gulps, not taking her eyes off of you. "I knew you weren't a real friend. You don't even trust us enough to tell us what your quirk is. Do you realize—"
One moment her words are spiking at your spine, and the next there is a sudden pain on your right palm, and the redness is returning to Uraraka's face. But only one of them.
Did I really— You stare down at your hand. The color begins to drain from your face. A subtle sobbing fills the room.
Uraraka looks like she is about to collapse. Not from pain, but from betrayal. Iida sweeps down to catch her just in time. "Don't die on us, Uraraka!" A single tear dribbles down his cheek.
I...I slapped her?
You bite your trembling lip and turn your back to the two of them. Midoriya stands in front of you, and when you finally pry your eyes open, his disappointed look stares back at you.
"You took that too far."
You bite your lip and begin to storm down the hall. Midoriya doesn't watch you go. He slips right over to Iida and lends Uraraka his hand.
The two of them walk down the hall, their hands still together and her swollen cheek on his shoulder. Iida trails behind them, as stiff as usual.
<2 hours later>
You are about to head back home when you see Uraraka standing by the entrance of the school. You bite your lip and turn around, hoping she doesn't see you.
"(F/N)-chan!" her sweet voice calls toward you, and you hear little footsteps echoing through the hall.
She snatches you by the arm and pulls you toward the door. "Let's walk home together." She laughs. "I have to tell you something."
Is she not, you gulp, mad at me?
As you're walking home, she continues to be her usual self, humming and smiling at everyone who passes by the street. You continue to bite your life. I should apologize. I should apologize!
"Earlier, Midoriya walked me to the nurse's office!" Her face grows so red you worry she might faint again. "Then afterward—aww—you won't believe it! He said, 'I'm glad you're okay, Ochako-chan.' OCHAKO! OCHAKO! He called me by my first name!"
"Yeah, well he's called me (F/N) since I first met him." You can feel your blood beginning to boil again.
Uraraka stops walking. You turn around to see her frozen on the sidewalk, her face dull. "I don't know why you've been so sour lately." She sniffles and turned around, heading in the opposite direction. "I'm taking a different route home."
Forget about apologizing, you think. "Yeah, why don't you do that?" You grind your teeth and spin around. But something blocks you. It's as if you've run into a brick.
Killian's arms wrap around your back, pulling you closer to his chest. "Hello, sweetie."
You squeeze your hands upward. "Control," you choke. You make him let you go and back away a bit before saying, "Release."
He stands there on the sidewalk with his chin toward the ground, chuckling. When he looks up at you, his eyes are glowing.
"I see you're finally letting your emotions flow again." He smiles from ear-to-ear. "I missed that part of you."
You try to catch your breath, letting the initial shock pass. "Killian," you say. Your voice is shaky.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"I thought about what you said." As you cross your arms, a mile spreads across your face. "You came just on time."
