Chapter 5

It was difficult sleeping that very night. And to top it all, the next day was Saturday, which means I wouldn't see Melvin till Monday. How possible would that be? And to think we haven't even started anything on our project. I needed to do something. Anything that could get me closer to Melvin. Not for my feelings though but for my grades. I can't possible get low grades. Mum would freak out which will give Paul all the more right to pick on me.

"Baby." I heard mum call me. Checking the time it was a little after eight. I couldn't get any sleep the whole night and just hearing mum's voice made me all the more sleepy.

"I'm coming mum." I quickly went to the bathroom to rinse my face and brush my teeth. Then I put on a coat heading downstairs.

"I thought you wouldn't be getting down any sooner. Come here and have your breakfast." Mum dished my food. Even though I was still worried there's no way on earth I'm starving myself.

"Thanks mum." Mum smiled at me as she joined me to eat. "Where's Paul?" I asked after we shared the grace.

"He left early this morning." Mum scooped some portion of food into her mouth. Looking at her, I could tell all wasn't well.

"Are you okay mum?"

"I'm fine." But why wasn't I convinced?

"If there's anything disturbing you, you could talk to me about it. At least I shared mine with you." I had told her all about Melvin. I had to since I had to give her a comfortable explanation about how mud got to my lab coat.

"I'm really fine dear. Why do you think I'm not okay?" she asked.

""cause you don't look happy. You only smiled and that's just your weak smile. You didn't give me the heavy one."

"Oh Leah. You and your talks. I just felt out of the weather. But I'll be okay."

"Tell me the truth mum." I said dropping my spoon on the plate. "Did you and Paul have a fight?" though she tried to cover it, I was sure I read surprise in her eyes.

"What? Why will you think that?" she reached for the water.

"I don't know. For the past 2 days, I've not been seeing him around. And just last night he didn't come back home until some minutes past 12 now as early as 8 he's already out on a Saturday morning? Oh c'mon mum, who wouldn't put two and two to figure out that's fire in paradise. I'm not a little kid anymore. I'm already in senior high." Mum looked depressed.it looked as though she was going to cry.

"I'm-" what I feared happened. She broke into tears.

"Mum I'm so sorry. Did I say anything wrong? I just-" I was cut short by the ringing of the bell. "Wait here mum, I'll get it."

I was shocked and surprised at the same time. What's he doing here?

"Hello. Won't you at least let me in?"

"Oliver? What are you doing here and how did you get my address?" I wasn't even done talking. He quickly pushed me aside and got into the house. "Hey, I'm not done talking."

"Well I'm done listening. Oh, sorry, good morning ma. I didn't expect to meet you." Oliver said greeting my mum.

"It's fine. Welcome dear." Mum said. "Umm?"

"Oh sorry. Mum this is Oliver, Oliver this is my mum." I said introducing them.

"Nice meeting you ma." Oliver said with a smile.
