Beauty Defined

On today of all days,
Her birthday,
She looked at herself in the mirror.
Her eyebrows,
Her cheeks,
Her lips,
and especially her eyes.
The years were being yelled back at her.
But she didn't hide away.
Behind the makeup and various types of creams
She was who she was.
A woman with a past, a present, and a future.
She embraced her natural radiance.
And the iridescent shine that came with every line.
Every smile line brought with it a happy memory.
Every frown line carried a lesson learned.
With each new wrinkle a new degree of wisdom.
Each age line made the advice that came with it that much more unique.
Her bruises reminded her that she was still trying to get out of that awkward stage.
But she owned it.
Her awkwardness was hers.
She was made in the image of the most high
and all of her was amazing.
Her crows feet reflected the courage that raged within her as she walked the pathway of life.
Every blemish told a story of boldness.
Her dark marks reminded her
of her days of daring youthful rebellion.
Her red eyes kept her in constant remembrance of how much her life had changed since then.
The many nights she spent awake praying and crying out for forgiveness for her many mistakes.
The days spent slaving away making someone else rich
and the nights spent trying to dance and party away the feeling of failure.
The friends and loves found and lost.
The ones that she wishes she could forget.
She looked at the woman she had become
and she appreciated her God given youthfulness.
Her changes, her curves, her posture
All showed confidence, not age.
The woman staring back at her
had a story to tell.
One that was comedy platinum,
a drama that still brought her to tears
and on occasion it was a thriller filled with suspense that kept her on the edge of her seat and had everyone within her whirlpool caught up in the torment that she put herself through
But that's how life goes.
And as the roadmap of her years had taught her...
Why live if it's not a story worth writing about.
Why simply waste away when you can find your own happiness.
Enjoy the moments of life and all the lines that it brings.
Her life and love shined through her even now.
She had aged like a fine wine
living her life, her way, gracefully.
Affirmed by every old and new line.
And the years were touching her gently.

Shhh... I'm trying to tell a story! DLL
