Why Did You Have To Leave? - Itachi x Reader

(Y/N) P.O.V

Today has been a good day and can only get better. That's what I thought at the time, how silly was I. The reason why today would only get better was that the love of my life was coming back from a mission he had been on with his partner. I learned love doesn't doesn't stay for long.

At the moment it was around 9:30 at night. I just got out of the shower and changed into my pyjamas. Due to my hair being wet and knotty I decided to brush it. So here I am standing in front of my mirror waiting for my love to come home. Little did I know that was the last time I would wait for him.

It didn't take long for the door to open behind me. As soon as I heard the creak of the door I spun around, seeing Itachi entering the room. Upon seeing him my face instantly lit up like a fireworks. That was the last time I smiled like that. Wasting no time at all, I dropped my brush on the dresser and ran to hug Itachi.

As I hugged him I realized he wasn't hugging back like he usually did. Causing me to worry a bit I decided to let go. I shouldn't have let go.

When I let go I stepped back and asked, "Itachi dear, is everything alright?"

Itachi didn't reply to my question, instead, he took off his Akatsuki cloak.  After he just sat on the bed, with his elbows resting on his knees and his head in his hands. Instinctively I sat down beside him and put one arm around him, giving him a side hug.

"Itachi dear, please tell me what is wrong?" I asked again hoping to get a response.

"It is nothing (Y/N)....." I heard Itachi mumble quietly.

Sighing I replied, "Please Itachi I know something is wrong. Could you just tell-"

"There is nothing wrong (Y/N)! Would you just drop it!" Itachi yelled now looking at me dead in the eye, this scared me and I couldn't help but shrink back in fear.

Eyes wide in a mix of fear and shock, I murmured back looking down, "Okay... If that's what you want..." I should have kept asking if he was alright.

"Thank you." Itachi said curtly before getting back in his previous position.

Feeling a bit uncomfortable I moved to the other side of the bed, before lying down and looking at the ceiling. I should have stayed next to him.

Everything in the room was quiet, too quiet for my liking. So I decided to ask Itachi yet another question, "So... Itachi... how was your mission with Kisame?"

To my surprise, I got a reply.

"It was fine." Itachi answered his voice suddenly very quiet.

"That's nice..." I commented not knowing what else to say.

"Hey (Y/N)," Itachi asked suddenly sitting up properly and, looking at me.

I quickly responded with a 'yes.'

"Let's say.... hypothetically speaking... I were to leave you... or die... what would you do?" Itachi inquired. I should of known that question wasn't hypothetical.

This question caught me by surprise but, nonetheless I responded, "Well if you were to leave... I would follow you without a doubt.  And if you were to die... I don't know what I would do without you."

The next thing that happened was Itachi reaching over to me and pulled me into a tight embrace. As we hugged I could feel my shoulder becoming wet with what I presumed were tears.

"Why are you crying?" I spoke softly as I drew small circles on his back.

Not getting a response I sighed in defeat. Soon enough though Itachi let go, his eyes red and puffy when I looked into his eyes.

"Let's go to bed." Itachi mumbled, laying down and pulling me along with him.

Complying to his wish I laid down with him and snuggled up to him in the process.

"I love you." I said as I slowly closed my eyes falling asleep.

Before falling asleep Itachi kissed my lips and whispered, "I love you so much (Y/N).."

--- Time skip to the morning brought to by an Apple Ryuk ate ---

Gradually I woke next morning to an empty space. Once I realized Itachi was not in bed, I sat up so fast I almost flew off the bed. In a panic, I scrambled out of bed but, not before noticing a note on my end table.

Picking up the folded note, I opened it. Immediately tears came rushing to my eyes as I read the note.

'Dear (Y/N),

When you are reading I will have already left. ̶I̶ ̶a̶s̶k̶ I beg of you not to follow me, for if you do you'll most likely die in the process which is something I most definitely do not want.All I want you to know is that I love you with all my heart and, I wish we could have lived happily-ever-after.

By this point in time, I was on the ground bawling my eyes off. The same phrase kept running trough my mind as I thought about my predicament:

'Why did you have to leave?'

Hello once again peasants, hope you enjoyed this chapter. Just a heads up I won't be able to update next Sunday because I have my birthday party on Sunday. Also, one more thing if anyone knows how to cope with all the deaths in Death Note please tell me how, because I can't get over the fact that L is dead. Anyway, have a good day!
