I never killed anyone in my life and don't plan to start. There has to be another way to get the Institute. Besides, Waller said to do what had to be done, and murder is never necessary.
The only other way for me to take over the Institute is for me to become a Lightwood, for me to marry into the family. But what about love?
Well, to love someone you have to love the ugly parts; everyone has an ugly side they hide for they fear the world of seeing it, but you have to love that along with the good. Jack and I never had that. And maybe I'll never have that. So, marrying the eldest son of the Lightwoods is the only way.i having nothing to loose.
I have to convince Alec Lightwood to marry me.

Harley and Ianthe could do this job easily. All Ianthe wants is power (she'd do anything to marry into it) and she's super good at flirting and getting her way. I can see her pushing out her breasts and bragging on how the Institute was run. She'd have a ring on her finger in a matter of seconds.
Harley would laugh and flirt like crazy, then she'd wear a stripper dress.
A week into the job, and all I have accomplished is a bad impression. I tried to come off old and confident; but came off as a know it all jerk who hates everyone. Mayrse lightwood tolerates me, and makes me track demons.
Isabelle lightwood hates my guts. I try to get Alec in my side, but he seems so lost. He doesn't even try to reach out to me.
Have Herondale doesn't trust me, and he's too obsessed with a girl named Clary to even try to look at me from a different perspective. Max lightwood, is only 9 and I try to reach out to him (it'll be good practice for when Harley had her baby) but before I can say a word Isabelle always comes and snatches him away. Almost as if, she doesn't want filth like me to touch him.

There was a recent demon attack. Again! Amanda Waller is getting impatient with me. Dad recently contacted me only to try and take my money. And then Harley called saying she has a baby bump. It's a lot to take in.
Alec and I are in charge of getting a corpse DNA, to see how the demon killed it.
Being around a dead body grossed me out but I had to held it together. Even when I could see the corpses dark hair which resembled Eugene so.
Lydia, that's enough!!! Ok Alec lightwood is right beside you just talk to him. Then everything is going to work out. Don't think about all the stress.

" So,... I hear the warlock Magnus Bane is going to come and help us inspect the corpse," As soon as I said Magnus Alec looked up. "Oh! Do you know him?"

"Uh... Yeah.. He's a warlock he's very... Magical uh really good at magic cause he....," he winced "I mean he's a warlock.. Wait I said that um.. He works with Isabelle and I sometimes,"

That's when I saw it in his eyes that he was in love with Magnus Bane. Trying to cover up and hide his feelings. Like a catipillar being forced in a cocoon and wanting to burst out into a butterfly. But Alec fears the reaction his butterfly will get from others.
That sparkle in his eyes, I have that with Eugene. Always have and always will.

"You love him," I state.

"No! He just helps us a lot..."
Liar. Rejection is always the first step to falling for someone.

"Alec, it's ok..." I wanted him to not be ashamed of being in love. Even if it was with a guy, love is love.

"why are you paired with me anyway??!!" He snapped.

"Excuse me," I being " I'm a member of the clave you should be honored to be working with me," at least that's what my background should be.

"I'm not buying it," he continued "why aren't you working with technology??!! Everyone knows you're an excellent hacker, you could hack into Valentines' security and give us all the information we need.
But mom doesn't trust you enough to do that. How do we not know you're working for him, but you have skills we might as well use them!"

"What are you saying?" I ask feeling happy for being praised with technology skills, I only have them from playing around with computers as a child. And feeling offended for being yelled at.

"I'm going to convince mom to let you work on hacking instead of this!" He said.

"Thanks," I mutter, obviously I'm not welcome here. But I'm also relieved. No more blood, just researching and hacking. Easy. I always thought hacking was wrong and that it was a useless talent of mine. Hacking to me is like a puzzle I'm trying to solve.

"Are you doing this just to get away from me?"

"No.. I just,, none of your business,"

"You like to keep yourself busy so you won't think about love," I quickly continue before he snaps again. "It's ok, I've been there," I think about telling him about Eugene or Jack but I don't know Alec enough to do so.

"You're not really a Branwell are you?" He asks, his eyebrows crunched together in thought.

"Excuse me!" I begin.

"The only female Branwells were Sophia and Hannah. Sophia Branwell died of cancer," I froze. Eugene's mother is dead and I didn't even know about it. I haven't seen her in years and now I never will again. She was such a sweet lady. At the wedding she said Eugene was lucky to have a beautiful girl like me.

"And Hannah?" I question, as my voice cracked. Hannah Branwell was 8 at my wedding and all she wanted to cake and to get out of her itchy dress.

"She's a mundane, so the only way for you to be a Branwell is for you to marry into the family. You have no ring and haven't even mentioned a lover. Isn't this suspicious?"

  "I married Eugene... I mean John Branwell..." I paused "he died in a demon attack and..." I didn't stop myself. I let a tear or two fall. "It's all my fault and..." I began to choke on my own sobs.

"We all make mistakes and don't blame yourself for a demon attack,-"

  "NO! You don't understand!!! This warlock threatened us and... My heart told me to give him time to explain himself...and...um.. Then the warlock sent these demons to attack and.... The screaming girl and he left and......Harley!!!" I wipe my eyes and then feel all the snot running out of my nose. "He left to save a girl while I saved my sister. He never came back," I explain. Alec looked at me as if I was human and he had just realized it.

  "Magnus may be a warlock but just because he can summon demons, doesn't mean he'll use that against us,"

It was cute ; how he defended Magnus.

  "Why are you really here?" Alec asks. I sighed.

  Isabelle and a man with a glittery coat and spiked hair walked in the room. Magnus bane.

"I brought some help," Isabelle told Alec and winked. Magnus and Alec exchanged a look but that was all.

"A woman  sent me here to take over the institute," I blurt. It feels so good to have off my chest.

"Is this because mom and dad use't to work for the circle??!! This will ruin the lightwood name and.." Isabel spoke with anger. That woman clearly cared about her family.

Crap. Lydia you're so stupid why would you just blurt that out??!!!

   "Well," Magnus spoke with a puzzled expression on his face "I suppose this calls for a drink, my place?"

"I don't drink," I begin.

"He wasn't asking you! We don't want you there, not after what you're doing to us," Isabelle snapped. I was about to tell her thus she should be thankful that I was telling her this. Besides Waller will kill me now, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.
   Then my phone began ringing.
I took it as a chance to sneak away. I briefly told Alec to enjoy himself as I shuffled out the door.

    Who would be calling me this hour?

  Why would catwoman be calling me?
