Rain drops pattered down on your window as you stared outside. The sky was a deep grey and the tree branches were whipping around wildly in the wind. You continued to stare until there was a soft knock on your door.
" Sweetie? It's time for school. Are you dressed yet?" You hopped down from the seat at the bay window and made your way towards the door. When you opened it, your mother was pleased to find that you were ready for the first day of second grade. The only thing she needed to fix was our hair.
" Excellent! Come, come now dear. Let's braid your hair." You stood in front of the bathroom mirror while you mom grabbed strands of hair and set to work. It took about 10 minutes, but when she was finally done you actually felt pretty.
" Grab the granola bar off of the counter in the kitchen. Your father is waiting for you outside in the car." You nodded and headed downstairs slowly.
Time skip to school
You had to admit.......you were really nervous. Through the years, you never really talked much. It just didn't seem necessary. But now here you were, in need of new friends. You watched out the car window as kids ran puddles and laughed together.
" Alright (y/n). Have fun okay?? Meet new people and learn lots!" You smiled at your dad and pushed the car door open. As you maneuvered past other students the pit in your stomach started to fade away. You reminded yourself to relax and suddenly you felt a little surge of confidence.
You found the office door and peeked inside. You figured this must be where you get the schedule. It was silent when you approached the clerk's desk. All that could be heard was her fingers typing away on her computer. She looked down upon you and immediately pointed to a row of seats against the wall.
" Wait to be called young lady." 15 minutes later a man called you to his office. He introduced himself as Mr. Byers, the principal, and handed you a paper with words and numbers on it.
" This lists your classes from first to last. Mrs. Wheeler will help to guide you the rooms. I know you will enjoy your time with us here." With that you hopped off the seat across of his desk and turned to find the woman who was supposed to direct you.
" Oh and one last thing Ms. (y/l/n)!" You turned back to him and waited for what he had to say.
" Welcome to Derry."
