It was a hot and dry afternoon. Everyone was itching to get out of class by now. It was the last day of eighth grade and summer was minutes away! You pushed your hair off of your shoulders and let it rest against your back. On the seat next to you, Daniel Hayes was tapping his foot rapidly against the ground. You quickly whipped your head to the left and looked directly at your best friend, Millie Wheeler. She smiled as you both made eye contact.

" Summer." She whispered softly and the girls behind you giggled in agreement.

" Summer." They repeated, before laughing once more. You felt a pencil tap your shoulder and now you were looking at the desks behind yours. It was a group of boys that played for the Derry middle basketball team.

" Summer." The one with the pencil nodded his head in your direction. You felt a smile creep up on your lips and now the excitement was bubbling up inside of you.

Finally, after an entire class period of no one listening to the teacher, the bell rang through the halls.

" SUMMER!" You shot up from your desk and everyone else cheered along with you. Students began filing out of the classroom, getting final yearbook signatures, crying in each others arms, of in your case..........Making some much needed plans.

" So what's the deal this summer?" Millie approached your side as you cleared out books from the school's dented locker. You faced your best friend (of 4 years) and clapped your hands together.

" Well the question's not what we ARE going to do......" You were cut off by the entrance of another good friend.

" It's what we AREN'T going to do." Sadie ran a hand through her auburn hair and glanced down at her nails.

You had met Sadie just this year. Yeah she was a little stuck up at times, but she was never fake. She was honest and stayed true to both you and Millie. The three of you continued to discuss plans for the next two months up until you got outside. The buses wouldn't be showing up for another 30 minutes, and Millie never wanted Sadie to wait alone. So you'd all sit together until Sadie's bus arrived, then Millie would walk home with you. You found a picnic table to stay at and pulled out your phone to see what days you were free. The basketball boys who had been in class with you and Millie earlier stopped by to chat. After maybe 15 minutes, they got up and left as well. Sadie was in the middle of saying that she wanted to bob her hair for a "fresh" summer look, when a shouting came from the other side of the field.

" YOU S-S-SUCK BOWERS!" Your trio's conversation died down for a minute as you all turned to see what was happening.

It was that idiot kid Henry Bowers picking on a couple of eighth graders. He and his goons were like 2 years behind in school, and almost 16 years old. You noticed two kids were on the ground and the other two were standing defenseless against the giant bully. A feeling of sadness came over you as Bowers shoved the poor boy backwards.......nearly knocking him over.

" Oh god. Henry's always starting problems with those same kids." Millie shook her head and looked away as Belch (the chubbier one in the group of jerks) pushed the one with glasses onto the grass.

" Well they aren't called the Losers Club for nothing Mills." Sadie was applying lipstick while staring into a small pocket sized mirror.

You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion and let out a small scoff.

" THE WHAT CLUB??"
