Mai x Naru

"Do you love me or Gene?"

Naru looked down at her with cold blue eyes. There was more than that though. There was hurt, betrayal and longing in those cold azure eyes.

Did he really just ask that?
I have to tell him, or else I'll lose him...

"YOU! I love you! Genes not the one who demands tea! He's not the one who risked his life to save me! He's not the one who brought me tea to make me feel better! He's not the one I met first at my school! He's not the one who tricked me into working with him! He's not the one who calls me by name! He's not the one I argue with, get along with or help day in and day out! He's not the one who calls me an idiot or calls me an animal! He's not the one who teases me just to see my reactions! He's not the one I want to see smile a rare gentle smile that I've only seen once! He's not the idiot scientist! He's not Naru! He's not Oliver Davis! And most of all he's not YOU!"

Tears ran down her face. Hurt that he would doubt her. Hurt that all of this was for nothing. Hurt that even with a rejection she knows that she'll never love someone else as deeply as him. Turning away she ran. Ran away from the pain. Ran away from the Love her life. She ran all the back to her small apartment.

In shock, Naru quickly knew he messed up. Of course she loves him. What did she and Gene ever do other than walk through horror visions? Was Gene there for her during the day? Or when she's in danger? Did he even try to talk to her? Did he protect her? He felt like an idiot. An idiot scientist for not realizing all the signs. He loved her- no loves her. Only frozen a second longer, facing Mai's retreating form he quickly goes after her.

"MAI!"

Dashing left and right, zigzagging through the crowd. Keeping his eyes on his last hope for a connection. Soon he came to a stop. Right in front of an apartment complex. Thanks to him being her boss, he knew which door she resides in. Slowly making his way up to the second floor, down the hall, he stopped at the last door. Taking a deep breath he lowered his head and knocked. He knocked softly two times.

"Mai... Please. Open the door."

As if by magic - or supernatural- the door opened to reveal the teary eyed faced girl. Her hair disheveled from the wind and running with every fiber of her being. Her face pale, while around her eyes and nose were red. A sign that she sobbed to her heart content.

"Mai..." Naru released a relieved sigh.

"What! Came her to say I'm an idiot? To reject me so hard that I'll leave forever? Come on! I know! I'm stupid for falling in love with you! To have feelings for someone that wasn't going to return my feelings! Spit it out! All the numbers and facts why don't you!" Mai gripped the door harder, prepared to slam the door on his face. Prepared to shut out the years she spent on this one sided love behind.

"No. Mai, I'm sorry. I-I spent years in Genes shadow. Girls would use me to get to my brother. Would confess to me thinking I needed saving or thought that I was Gene. So many times have I tried to find someone- only for my brother to get them. That was until I met you. You were the one who changed me. You were the one who was selfless and cared when only few have. Even with all this arguing, in the end you would forgive me or apologize when I was at fault. Your the one who proved me wrong. You proved that I still cared about such things. I was scared that I would lose you to my brother or lose you just like how I lost Gene. I was scared that one day you would be gone and I would end up seeing your death through a vision. I was desperate not to lose anyone else. Now I know that all of that fear was for nothing because..." Gently he placed his hand on her cold cheek. With his other hand, he snaked his way around her waist and brought her closer. Lifting her face up to meet his eyes did he finally say.

"I love you."

Swiftly, Naru went down and kissed her moist lips, lips that he knew cached some of her tears. As if possessed Mai quickly kissed back. Soon it was hot and heated, in between the kisses they gasped out for air and just dived in more. The kisses each became deeper and deeper. They were filled with desperation, need, longing and their suppressed feelings for one another. They grasped onto each other, holding on like it was their last link of life.

Finally not able to handle it any longer they separated in need of much needed oxygen.

"That, That was amazing..." Mai trailed off in hot breathy gasps.

"Yeah." Naru too panted for breath.

Holding on to each other, they couldn't look away from each other's eyes. Soon the situation of their new found relationship came to light.
Naru had to leave for England in just a week.

"Let's, um talk more inside." Mai stumbled out.

"Will you make tea?" Naru attempted to lighten  the somber mood. Mai rolled her eyes, smirking she pulled him into her apartment. Shutting the door behind, they walk toward the little kitchen area.

As Mai made tea, Naru watched her make the same movements that he has seen plenty of times on so many occasions. Her  graceful movements getting all the ingredients, the way that her hips sway as she hums a little tune while she pore the hot water in. He wondered how she wasn't a klutz when it came to making tea, but he suppose that it doesn't matter, as long as he gets his tea made by the only one who can make it for him and only him.

Mai sat down the teacup in front of Naru and sat next to him, holding her own teacup.

"Naru. What- what are we going to do? Your leaving in a w-week."

"Mai. I will come back. For you. I'll only stay in England for a few months to help my parents. The latest would be a year. But your graduating this year in two months. You need to be ready for the exams."

"I know. I just don't want you to leave..."

"Give me your phone."

"What? Ok."

Mai took out her phone and handed it to Naru. Gently caressing his fingers. Taking the phone Naru punched in a few things.

"There." Handing back her phone. "I gave you my number, Lin's number, Madoka number and my office number. That way you can always keep in touch with me."

Setting down her teacup once again, Mai kissed Naru as a thank you.

"Thank you."

After that they ended up sleeping on Mai's bed holding each other in their sleep. Never wanting to let go of one another.
