See Evan's life wasn't normal, and he knew it.
"God just made you special. More special than anyone." His mother always told him.
He knew what she meant: God cursed me with you, you're a freak.
Evan stayed up each night, listening to the sounds of the howling wind. He always found the noises of the night quite comforting. As a result of this, he barely slept.
His normal night consisted of sitting in his bed on his phone (or computer), listening to music. Or sitting at his bay window, staring at the dark shapes of trees and bushes.
"Evan, sweetie!?" Evan's mom calls from someplace downstairs.
It was a Saturday morning. She shouldn't be leaving for work this early... unless she has an early shift..?
"What?" Evan says, barely loud enough for Heidi to hear.
"Come on sweetie, I'm taking you somewhere."
Heidi rolled her eyes at the, barely hearable groan Evan gave. Sometimes he can be such a teen.
"Come on lazy butt! We're gonna be late!" She calls happily to her grumbling son.
"Fine. Give me a minute." He calls back to her.
Evan jumps off his bed and quickly pulls on a light gray sweater and his shoes. Before exiting his room, he grabs his phone and then leaves the room.
Heidi was waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs. She smiled and ruffled his messy hair.
"Ready?"
Evan swats her hand away, "Not really."
Heidi smiles, "Come on, we might be late."
She quickly walks out the door, Evan hesitating before following.

"Honey you need to eat before we leave. Please..?" Jared's mother pleaded her son.
He just sat there, poking the chicken with his fork. Whenever he sat at the dinner table he made a great show of dancing food.
His younger sister loved it, giggled as he made the broccoli spin round and round. Or how he made the pork mysteriously hop of his plate to the dark abyss of the dog's mouth.
Quinn only stared in horror when Jared refused to eat dessert.
"But that- that's the BEST PART! Why won't you eat it big brother? It's delicious!"
She was too young to understand his eating problem. Jared always shrugged and gave a blunt: "I'm not hungry."
"But- IT'S SO GOOD! You're weird." She mumbled the last part, shoving a mouthful of ice cream into her small mouth afterwards.
Jared knew he was weird, everyone knew it. Only if anyone else had said it to his face like that, he would be much more offended. But it was his 7 year old sister, how could he take anything seriously when she has ice cream all over her face?
"I'm not hungry, mom." Jared's blunt reply answered his mother's question.
She sighed, "Please? Just a small bite? Please, Jare, please?"
Jared poked the chicken one last time before pushing the plate away and standing up.
He walked away from the table, Chilli, his Alaskan Malamute, trotted after him.
His mother sighed and watched her son walk away. She looked to her husband, he only shrugged and watched Jared disappear from their view.

"Connor! Mom wants you!" Zoe's voice rang throughout the long halls of the large house.
But Connor couldn't hear her.
He was too engulfed in a conversation.
"Why do you always come back? What if I don't want you here?" He said.
The other person laughed that echoed oddly. Oh Connor, you are quite the idiot.
"I'm not an idiot." Connor growled to the chuckling figure.
Yes you are, now back to your question. I hope you know I'm not real. I've never been real. He says.
Connor rolled his eyes, he knew that this "man" would now start a lecture.
You see-
"Yeah yeah, big words, longer meanings. I get it, now shut up and leave me alone."
That is a negative young friend. I am your conscious. Solely here to annoy you, and remind you of what a stupid, stupid child you are.
Connor groaned, "Just go awa-"
There was a knock on the door of his bedroom. Connor glanced at his door and back to where the "man" was standing, but he was gone.
"Finally." Connor mutters, standing up from the corner he was sitting in.
He opened the door and Zoe was standing there, hands on her hips looking furious.
"I have been calling your name for five minutes! Why haven't you answered?!" She hisses.
Connor only lazily looks down his nose at his shorter, younger sister. He always reminded her about his "superiority".
She glared at him, "Are you listening to me?!"
"Oh that's a hard question. Hm, let me think... uh, no." He says, still staring at her like he could care less.
"Whatever. Mom wants you. Needs to tell you something." Zoe says, walking away.
Connor watches her walk all the way to her room. He rolls his eyes and heads downstairs to where his mom would be.
"-JUST GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!" Her voice shouts.
"DON'T TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!" His voice hisses.
Connor walks into the kitchen to see both his parents glaring at each other. His father turns on him and glares.
"Well now I'll leave. Just to get him out of my sight." His father hisses, glaring at Connor.
Cynthia scrunched up her nose as Larry left then looked at Connor and smiled. She quickly walked to him and gave him a loving hug.
"I'm sorry you had to see that dear. Now, there's something I want to take you to. It's a surprise so quickly eat something. We'll be leaving soon." Cynthia says, standing on her tip-toes and kissing Connor on his forehead.
"K' mom. It better be worth it." He says, grabbing an apple and biting into it.
