6.

My alarm clock never woke me up.

I sat up, sweat pouring down my face. My chest heaved as I fought to catch my breath. Only a nightmare. Only a nightmare. Only a nightmare. I repeated over and over in my head, trying to convince myself it wasn't real.

But I had had enough nightmares in my life to know this dream was different.

The numbers 3:41 glowed in the darkness. My alarm every morning went off at 5:50 so I could get ready for school. I still had two hours but I knew there was no way I would sleep again tonight. I got out of bed and walked to my bathroom. My feet stuck to the floor, making a sticky noise as I walked. Sweat raced down my back and I fanned my face with my hands.

When I reached the bathroom I washed my face. I felt a little better as I sat on the closed toilet. I focused on my breathing, my heart was still racing. I was on edge and I didn't know why. I had never felt like this because of a dream. Over-whelmed, confused and out of breath.

A cold sensation ran through my arms. It felt like water was running through my veins. A shiver went down my spine and I suddenly became cold. Wanting a blanket I went back to my room and bundled myself in my blankets.

Fire shot through my hands, sweat pouring down my body. I jumped out of bed, surprised and even more an edge. Did someone just light my hands on fire? I swear I felt the grabbing flames on my hands and the heat close to my body.

I shook my head, no one was in my room and there was no fire.

I calmed myself down again and climbed into bed. That night I battled something I had never even imagined I would have to fight.

At school the feeling of being frozen to death and on fire had faded away. I convinced myself it was just a dream and focused on school.

After my first class I was feeling much better. I had fully convinced myself that last night was all a dream.

I entered my second class, English, and sat down. I actually liked English, I loved to read and Mrs. Banks, the English teacher, was really kind to everyone. She taught English in a fun way that got everyone involved. As she started her lesson I listened intently, taking in as much information as I could. I wanted to write a book one day, so listening and learning in this class would help me accomplish that.

A quiet whispering sound entered my ears from the back of the room. I turned to see two girls whispering to each other about some boys. I turned back around and listened to Mrs. Banks again.

Wait. How did I just hear them?

I turned around again. They were in the back of the classroom. I was in the front. Heat rushed through my body and I felt on edge again.

"Get a grip." I whispered to myself. I'm fine. I thought. But the words 'you're not' raced through my mind.

"Destine are you alright?" Mrs. Banks questioned.

My head jerked up, she must have noticed my squirming. "Yes, I'm fine."

She nodded and carried on talking.

For a second I felt fine. Then fire rushed through my body.

I barely caught a scream from escaping my lips. I gripped my chair as sweat covered my body. Suddenly I was aware of eyes on me. I hadn't realized the class went silent. How long had they been watching me?

"Destine if you need to go see the nurse you are excused from class." Mrs. Bank's voice flooded my ears.

I kept my eyes down and nodded. As I stood my legs wobbled and a small grunt escaped my lips. I started walking. My body burned. Pain. Pain. I was on fire.

Then the ice cold came back. Chilling my body and freezing me. I was almost to the door. I just needed to get out of this room. Silence. Everyone was watching. I just had to get out. I could find Austin. He had to know what was going on with me.

One step away. The door was reachable now. Before I could grasp the handle with my shaking hands my body shook and I fell to the floor. My vision blurred and a small scream rushed through my throat. I felt sticky, like I was covered in blood. But my insides were cold, frozen.

My right arm started to shake and I turned my gaze towards it. Suddenly a red light exploded from my arm. Lighting the room in red, then it turned to blue then green. Some of the people in the class screamed. My eyes widened and I scrambled onto my feet. I threw myself out the door and ran. My vision blurred and I felt my body hit the wall. I turned and started to run again. I was trapped. There was no way out. My arm started changing into different colors, lighting the hall.

My chest shook as I tried to breath. Suddenly I slammed into a figure. I tried to pull away but strong hands grabbed me in a gentle way. Tears streamed down my face as I shook. My body was crumbling. I fell into the person's arms.

I was loosing myself. Becoming less and less aware of reality. I didn't know who was holding me. I felt myself being lifted off the ground and I had the sensation of flying. My eyes were glued shut and I was fading fast.

Austin's smell surrounded me as I let myself go.
