8.

I took a deep breath and on the exhale I released the question, "Why did my arm light up in colors?"

"This is going to surprise you. Its a little weird to explain so I'll just start with the whole story. It's going to answer most of your questions." He breathed out and in, settling himself. For what? I was about to find out.

"Ok, so awhile ago a piece of data was created to protect important information, also to protect the human race. On the piece of data they put codes to locks, lock pad numbers to large army machines, they pretty much put all the information to life here on this piece of data. Why did they do it? Just in case something bad happened. That way they could give the piece of data to one person and the things trying to find the data wouldn't be able to locate it. Well, at first it worked alright but then people started to trade it off until it got lost. Thankfully, they found it quickly. When they got it back they decided they would have to pick one person to give the data to. And they wouldn't just give the data to that one person, they would insert it into that person's arm. That way it couldn't be lost. And when it needed to be traded down it would to a trustworthy family member in the person's life. Just like they had predicted, bad came. Weird looking creatures. Almost like humans, but their skin was rubbery looking, their eyes were black and unblinking, they walked in a swinging, creepy way. A way that would stop you in your tracks. And when they got ahold of you, they would kill you. They want the data. They want to be in control. At first they couldn't find it, but they became smarter. They created a device that tracked the data, how, we don't know. They found the people with the data and killed them. Then they searched their bodies. But before they killed the person with the data the person would switch off the piece of data to someone in their family they trusted. The first person to start with the data was the man who came up with the whole thing. Then he pasted it along to his sister, and so on. The data does weird things to people. Sometimes you float, sometimes you catch fire, sometimes you grow and in your case, your arm glows. The data does these things to help protect the people that have it. Sometimes it can help someone fly, other times it can create an element to help you when you need it. You are the 9th person to get this data. Your mother inserted it into your arm 2 days before she died. A couple days before the creatures come you have a dream that tells you they are going to find you. It tells you to trade the data off. The creatures don't know when we switch it off, so they go after the person that doesn't have it anymore. All 8 people before you have died trying to protect it. When you have it you've got to protect it with your life. You don't know this but my dad and I have been following your family. We are your protectors. We watch you and make sure nothing bad happens. Every person that has had the data has had a protector. Just in case their family dies and they need someone to go to. Our family has moved with yours, gone everywhere with you. Even when you don't see us we're there. Your father knows, that's why after your mother died he let you go. He knew we were here to help you out. I know its not fair but you are strong. We're going to help you get through this."

I stared dumbfounded at him. I prayed he was kidding, but his face showed other wise. It was grim and sad. It almost looked like he was preparing himself for me to die, "wait wait wait. So I'm pretty much on a suicide mission?!?!?! Wonderful. Just awesome. I have to give my life away just to protect something that I don't even know much about? My mother did too?! Why??"

"The data isn't just 'something,' you pretty much have the information to how to control the world in your arm. Your mother died for it. She went to work early, before my dad could get there to save her. She gave her life away for the sake of the data. And she did it alone for the sake of my father. Sometimes the protectors die with the data holders. But your mother was brave. She died alone so my father didn't die. For that our family owes our lives to you. She thought ahead. If my father had died I would be your only protector here. She died alone so you could have me and my dad to help you out. To the other 8 people it was a death mission. But we are not going to let you die. My dad works day and night to come up with a plan to keep you alive."
