Chapter 16

They had to tell Candice one way or another. It couldn't be hidden any longer. She was

standing away from the car with her feet pointing towards the small hills. The sun was dipping low

behind them while the birds flew over her head chirping almost silently. Nathan watched as the growing

darkness outlined her figure and softens her features. She had a wistful smile on her face and was

leaning against the tree with her hands crossed over her chest. Anthony stood besides her talking. They

both seemed at ease. They both looked happy.

"You've got it bad brother." Eliot came behind Nathan chewing on chips. Nathan knew it took

his brother hours before he is done with one meal. If it weren't for his ambitious mind he would be lying

around on a couch and be jugging down food.

"Be quiet." He shrugged him off. Eliot grinned and swallowed the food before he spoke.

"You don't even know what I'm talking about."

"And I don't want to either." He said curtly. Eliot balled up the bag of chips and tossed it over

his shoulder.

"I'm wrong, you do know what I'm talking about but you just don't want to acknowledge it." He

pointed out.

"I don't want to acknowledge it." He was set on giving him short and vague answers.

"Then you're a coward. You like her. A LOT." He emphasized.

"Eliot now is not the time! Stop playing a match maker and call Brad. I want to know if he

finalized security for our arrival." Nathan ordered Eliot and being the younger brother and having

respecting his elders, Eliot did as he was told.

"Just remember to tell her how you feel before it's too late. She has the right to know." He

said and vanished inside the car. Nathan shook his head knowing that Eliot was right but he felt for her

didn't seem real. His mind kept telling him that he would do what he did with every girl. He would get

tired and leave her, and he didn't want to break her heart. Nathan couldn't bare to think of hurting

Candice.

"I'm going to take a nap before we hit the road." Anthony kissed Candice's forehead and left

watching as Nathan strolled over besides him.

"I ask for one thing Nathan." Anthony said facing away from the sunset. "Don't hurt her." He

said grimly. It almost sounded like a threat. Looking at his stiff expression and wild eyes Nathan was

positive he was being threatened.

"I won't" he assured him then let Anthony walk away.

"Isn't it beautiful?" Candice asked Nathan with out looking away.

"Yes it is. How did you know it was me?" he asked smiling. Candice shrugged and leaned

fully on the tree.

"Your scent, Chesapeake and citrus?" she chuckled and shook her head. "I'm a cook after

all, I trust my senses." She gave him a warm smile and right there Nathan could feel himself melt.
