It honestly seemed like such a heart squeezing and happy moment. Finally, Oikawa is reunited with his childhood best friend after all these years! And through all those years, Oikawa almost forgot and can't really remember who he even was!
Oh man, when he saw those hopeful eyes he froze. Oikawa sensed with a dread that he was going to let him down. He was preparing to gently settle this soon to be awkward reunion, and maybe try to start anew. It seemed like a good idea.
Things were already not going with the plan since he couldn't really look at this man in the eye. With every step the other took, he felt his heart rise to his throat.
Feeling overwhelmed, before the other man could even say "Hi.", he stepped back, stumbling over a chair. Racking his brain for an excuse, he came up with the most creative and clever thing anyone could come up with.
"Um, bathroom!"He barely caught the other man's eyes and quite clearly, without even saying anything directly, he was already sure he crushed some hope within him. Oikawa felt terrible as he stumbled into the bathroom. He was even starting to get a head ache. Panicked and regretful, he sat on the closed toilet seat and groaned.
Man, that guy seemed excited he would remember him! Yet he couldn't. Some mismatched memories would be here and there but that was still a let down. He must've already started feeling like an insignificant memory. He hung his head and sighed. Well, it's not my fault I can't keep my shit on track after everything happening.
...
Excuses! Man up, Oikawa. The chestnut haired boy got up and cursed, silently vowing to never move overseas again. I should get back and apologize. I couldn't have been more obvious. After splashing a bit of water on his face, he sighed and slowly opened the door. He made his way to the screen door to re-enter the party, until the guest of honor was stepping past over the threshold, immediately locking eyes with Oikawa.
They both froze but it seemed as though Oikawa was the only one feeling a bit cold, yet beads of sweat were still forming on his forehead.
"Oikawa.", He said simply, no honorifics, no nothing. Feeling a little more pressured by the familiarity,he gulped and attempted the same.
"Um, Iwaizumi-kun?",Why am I questioning if that's his name or not, man I'm cruel,"Sorry about that I just, you know, run on my instincts!". The dry humor was fatally killed by the flash of skepticism in the other's eyes."So it's uh...been a while, yeah?", Oikawa tried to save the mood, rubbing the sweat off his hands on the side of his pants nervously. Iwaizumi seemed to have his mind on something else as he opened his mouth to respond.
"Yeah...", He said slowly, still trying to sort something out, then glanced at Oikawa's hand a bit. When his gaze returned from the taller man's fingers, he looked back at his face. This time there was something new in his eyes. Oikawa couldn't really tell but they seemed close to fear and frustration.
"Do you really remember me?", He said, cutting to the point where the brunette was trying to avoid. Oikawa's heartbeat quickened in a panic. There was a silence. Was he really angry? Were we that close? Shit I'm so bad at remembering...
Iwaizumi seemed to grimace. It seemed like Oikawa's silence was enough to bring him to a conclusion."You really are terrible.", He said softly. The hell did I do?!
"Uh, I'm sorry if I can't remember what happened so long ago. It's well and all that we were friends but why don't we just start from-", he was interrupted when Iwaizumi had pulled off something from his finger. He shoved it into Oikawa's face.He flinched in surprise, looking at the object, which looked exactly like the same ring on the floor of his room."What does this mean to you?", He demanded almost desperately. He looked at him blankly. It was a vague warm memory sure but...
