It was warm. That's how you'd describe the weather then. All other days were normal and just days.

Today though... Today was warm. Everything just seemed warmer, lighter. The smell was sweet and comforting.

June 8th- 2 days till break starts.

"Where are you going for summer, Oikawa?", A young 7 year old Iwaizumi said, his cheek scraped from the bark while he was climbing a tree. A 6 year old Oikawa looked down at the green sunbathed grass.

He hugged his knees tightly as he huddled closer to the young oak.
"I'm gonna move to America for a bit...", The Chestnut haired boy mumbled. He was scared. Scared that his only friend would get angry at him. Scared that he'll be alone his last days at the backyard where he met his only friend.

He's just scared of moving in total.

Iwaizumi looked at him for once, he was observing a stag beetle who had just disappeared behind a bush. It took a while before the spiky haired boy said anything.
"When?"

"Um... We're leaving on Sunday but getting everything ready on Saturday.", Oikawa reached for a twig and fiddled with it. He rested his chin on his knees, daring a glance toward Iwaizumi.

"So you're just leaving like that?"
"W-We can write letters or something..."
"It's fine, whatever.", Iwaizumi snapped and stuffed his hands into the pockets of his oversized cargo shorts.

He's mad. Oikawa could tell right away. Not the playful mad. Like the mad when he was angry at him when Oikawa broke his Harikiri Sunshine figure.

Or worse.

His heart was beating really hard now. Oikawa didn't want to be away from him. How can he be with Iwazumi when he was so far away though? Then he remembered when his dad went away on a trip for a long time, he was really scared that he left him and his mom forever.

His mom just smiled and pat his head.

"Do you see this ring, Toru? You're father has another one like mine. With these things we got married, and promised how'd we never forget each other."
Oikawa sniffled and buried his face in his mom's lap. He looked at the ring again. The sparkle of the gold was just so reassuring that he knew, it would be ok.

That's when an idea hit him.
'Maybe only when you get married that can happen? A lifelong promise?'
Oikawa looked at Iwaizumi, who had a bit of sulking expression as he swung his stick at the grass. With a deep breath, Oikawa got up and grabbed his wrist.

"Let's go."

With a confused Iwaizumi, he pulled him back through the forest trail to the road, facing a line of fences and a neighborhood beyond it.

After turning a few blocks they came in front of a mini Mart. It wasn't the prettiest, some white and red paint peeling off and the sign was dirty with old flyers and newer ads on the window.

"What are you doing? Getting me a parting snack? I'm still mad!", Iwaizumi cried, wrenching his wrist out of his friend's grip. Oikawa feeling slightly hurt but still resolute he felt in his pockets for some change. He went to those capsule machines and put in the money.

It was those fake jewelery capsules with cheap rings and necklaces made of plastic or tin. To Oikawa's luck, he got matching rings(To be honest with you, that's all the store clerk had and one other necklace). He cracked open the blue capsule and held out the tin silver looking ring.

He turned to a questioning Iwaizumi and grabbed his hand with his trembling ones. Man, this was embarrassing. But he needs to know he would have a connection with this boy!
"Iwa-chan... Let's get married!"

The store clerk even peeped from his paper to see what was up. Color immediately flushed into Iwaizumi's face when the words left Oikawa's mouth.

"W-What? I can't marry another boy!"
"But my mom said that you can make a promise to never forget each other if you get married!"

Silence.

"Is that true?"
Oikawa nodded and stuck out the ring even further out.

"I've been to my aunt's wedding, s-so you put this ring on my finger and I'll put this on yours.",the brown eyed boy said, feeling a little self conscious.

"Iwaizumi Hajime.", Oikawa said, feeling weird to say his friend's full name,"Do you promise that you'll never ever forget me?"

Iwazumi was embarrassed but he complied.
"Yeah..."
"That's not how you say it!"
"I-I mean, I do."
Oikawa smiled for the first time and placed the ring on Iwa's finger easily since it was rather loose.
"Now you say it."

Iwaizumi frowned and groaned. There's no way he was gonna say something...something so embarrassing and weird! Especially to a boy!

But that boy was Toru...

"D-Do you promise that you'll never forget me too?"
Iwaizumi felt like his cheeks were melting as he placed the ring on Oikawa's finger. He wasn't sure if he was feeling embarrassed from such icky words that he wasn't used to saying to the brown haired boy.
"I do!"

Don't say it so easily you idiot.

Smoothly, Oikawa grabbed his friend's hand with a smile warmer than the day. The summer breeze that blew in some leaves felt cold compared to that smile.
"Then till death do us part.", Iwaizumi mumbled in.

It was really, a warm day.

___________

Now I was about to ruin the mood with some bad joke but I won't. Because I am feeling kind and just writing warm things makes me warm.

Even though my hands are cold. Curse CA weather.

Anyways hoped you enjoyed some soft backstory. I thought I'd add this as comfort since, heh, I'm not always this kind with my fanfics so just a heads up @v@
