Past

I woke up to the sound of my alarm, and for a split second it felt like I was in a war zone or that my house was on fire. I have no idea why I chose the most violent ring tone, that damn thing sounds ten times worse in the morning. But I'm never gonna change it.

I practically fall out of bed, like I hit the ground fall, before I start to get ready. I gave myself the liberty to an extra thirty minutes of sleep, leaving me just about ten minutes before I have to leave the house.

I slipped on my most comfortable pair of jeans and a tank top then proceed down stairs to execute mission sneak out of the house unnoticed. I'm just going to school but I didn't want to deal with any of my moms shit this morning, especially since it was the last day.

"Skylar White you are not leaving this house without eating breakfast," she yells, in a much stricter voice then normal, and I was just about to leave the house, too. Mission unaccomplished.

"Mom," I sighed in defeat, turning to face my mother in a bath robe who was obviously freshly out of the shower, "I don't have time for this. I have a snack with me I'll eat it when I get to school. And it's the last day anyway cut me some slack."

There was an awkward moment of silence.

"Well?" she said breaking it.

"Well what?"

"What are you still doing here?" she explained pushing me out the door where she originally stopped me.

"Bye mom," I said as I waved at her walking to the car.

Just as I get the car started I hear her again, "Skylar."

"Yes?"

"Are you going to be here for dinner?" she asked walking up to the car.

"I don't think so. Luke and I are gonna hangout." Luke was a senior so he already graduated, so he hasn't been to school for the last two weeks. We started dating when I was a freshman. I honestly have no idea how it happened I thought I was way out of his league but I guess we just clicked.

"Please be home before midnight,"

"Are we really doing this?"

"Yes, now go your gonna be late," she said tapping the roof of my car, "Go!"

I pull out of the drive way and I hear my moms voice one last time. I didn't quite catch what she said but I know it had something to do with eating. I'm not anorexic or anything like that, I'm just not a breakfast person, at least not this early in the morning anyway. Come to think of it I'm not a morning person either.

The drive to school was uneventful. I pull up to a red light and decide to send Luke a quick text.

*Last day! I'm gonna take my AP human exam today wish me luck?*

He didn't reply, I wasn't expecting him to, but I found myself looking back at my phone for the remainder of the drive anyway.

While turning into the student parking area I take quick glance at my phone. Nothing. He's probably just sleeping, I mean I would be too if I weren't at school.

When I looked back up I saw someone crossing parking lot, at a dangerously close proximity to me. All to quickly I slammed on the breaks and jammed my hand onto the steering wheel which released the ear piercing sound of the car horn. The guy tumbles back as my car comes to a stop inches away from his body.

My heart was beating fast. I felt my chest pounding. I took my hand off the wheel to find it shaking.

"Hey," the guy started to speak, "how 'bout next time you watch where you're fucking driving." Correction, he started to yell.
