Location: Night Mist's Original Home: Pocket Universe
The time portal opened, and Elena and Overdrive stepped through. They appeared in a room filled with computers, and a window looking out into space. In the distance there could be seen a countless amount of universes.
"Where are we?" asked Overdrive.
"This here is a pocket universe, this is were your friend Night Mist comes from," said Elena.
"Look at all those monitors," said Overdrive. He stepped towards one that was full of alien names, probably the DNA samples that Night Mist had.
"Check this out," said Overdrive, "Discarded DNAs. Matrixian DNA is here. Her father really did it. He stabilized Humatrix's DNA, but he discarded it from the files. And look at all the locked DNAs that exist within her! She has enough samples to be strong enough to defeat the entire Alpha League singlehandedly!"
"Overdrive, focus, this in not why we are here," said Elena.
"Right, where do we go?" asked Overdrive.
"According to this monitors, the room we need is down this hallway," said Elena.
Overdrive walked down next to her, amazed at what he saw. The technology here compared to that of Professor Mark's. At the end of the hallway, they ended up in a room. It had no name, and it had a passcode.
"I got this," said Elena as she touched the passcode pad. Overdrive had noticed that ever since he met her, every time they travel through the Infiniverse's timeline, Elena starts looking older, and her emotions decreased.
"There we go, now we can enter," said Elena. Overdrive stepped into the room and looked around in awe. The room was covered in blue energy, and at the middle there was a huge pillar that glowed blue. There was a control station right in front of it, facing the door. There was a long platform that extended from where the door was to the control panel. Under the platform there was a deep, dark hole.
"We have to deactivate this machine," said Elena.
"Deactivate it? Why?" asked Overdrive. He walked all the way to the panel and look at the label above the controls. His eyes widened when he realized the truth.
"No... no. I... I can't," said Overdrive, taking a step back. Cold swear ran down his forehead, and he was trembling.
"Overdrive, I understand that--" said Elena but was interrupted.
"How could I not have seen it before? It- it all makes sense now. I suspected it when we were in Genos' universe, but I didn't want to admit it," said Overdrive.
"Overdrive--" said Elena softly, trying to calm him down to no avail.
"You never told me about this! You- you only said that we needed to set up their futures, but not like this," said Overdrive, "You never told me! Why Elena!? Why me!? Why are you telling me to do this!?"
"Overdrive, you don't recognize me. I am Elena, but I am also all of your sins. The ones you have committed and will commit," said Elena, her expression completely disappearing.
"Why!? Why me!? I can't do this!? I... I wanted to help them!? Not... not this," said Overdrive looking at the control panel. His hands shook uncontrollably.
"This... this is just... how many?" asked Overdrive.
"How many what?" asked Elena.
"HOW MANY LIVES!?" yelled Overdrive, "HOW MANY LIVES DO I HAVE TO DESTROY!?"
"You have no alternative, I am sorry. I don't want to this either, but I must. We have to set up everything so it ends the way it should, and so we can fix the future," said Elena.
"There... is there another way? Can we go back and make it so they live again? So they... so the stories have go different way but the same end?" asked Overdrive.
"No. Infiniversal Time flows in a straight line. You are supposed to be here. You can't change anything. It was always you that set up the stories. You are the one who wrote their futures," said Elena.
"But I... I can't do it knowing that what I do takes lives," said Overdrive.
"There is no alternative Overdrive. You must do it, whether you want it or not," said Elena. "I can't do it myself, it is not my fate. You see, I already lost the life I was supposed to have. You caused it as well. But now you must finish what you started."
"I- I really can't," said Overdrive.
"You must," explained Elena.
"I CAN'T!!!" yelled Overdrive as he punched the control panel. Sparks flew all around the room, and the machine started to power down. The electricity left that part of the structure as everything started to malfunction.
"There, I did it. Happy?" said Overdrive.
"Overdrive, please listen--" said Elena, but as interrupted as Overdrive fell to his knees. He looked up at the ceiling. There was a sound of gunshots, and the scream of a girl. Tears went down Overdrive's face, seconds passed until his mouth finally opened, and a heartbreaking scream came out, piercing the air.
On the broken control panel there was a sign, which read: Main Base Shield. Do Not Turn Off.
That day, a girl lost her father.
