If youv'e ever had a black eye, then you know what my day was like. Everyone just stared at me like I was a freak or something. By the end of the day,I was walking with my head down and my snout partially covered by a copy of the school paper. Still though, the day wasn't all bad. I didn't see Mr.West once, and there was no sign of Trent or his posse,so I figure I've probably scared them off for at least a few days. As I walked into biology,my last class of the day,I noticed Shelby was starring at me. I ignored her gaze and sat down.
"Hey",she said walking up to me,"are you okay?"
I didn't answer.
"Seth",she said leaning towards me.
I didn't even know that she knew my name.
The tardy bell rang and everyone quickly sat at their desks as Mr.Smith began to walk down the rows of desks and hand out the tests.
"Guys, this test is twenty percent of your final grade,so don't rush it." "You all know the penalty for cheating,so I won't elaborate, except to remind you that it's an automatic F and an unpleasant visit to Mr.West's office."
"Is there any other kind?" I asked myself.
Mr.Smith walked to the front of the classroom.
"When you finish your tests, bring them to me and then go back to desks and sit read,or draw quietly."
I quickly flipped through the test, talk about hard. I sighed as I took my pencil from my bag and began to work.I was mulling over my first answer when a folded up paper landed on my desk. I picked it up,looked at it and then surveyed the room to see who'd tossed it. Shelby was looking at me with a stern face.
I unfolded the note,it read,"How did you do that?"
I wrote back,"do what?"
I looked up at smith, who was playing Forza 3 on his computer,I threw the note back. Less than a half minute later, another piece of paper landed on my desk.
"You know what." "I saw what you did to those thugs."
I wrote back again,"I have no clue what your talking about."
Shelby wrote back,"you can trust me Seth."
I was writing another denial when Mr Smith loudly cleared his throat.
"Seth,he said with a disappointed tone,"those notes wouldn't have anything to do with the test were working on would they?"
I swallowed,"no sir."
Mr.Smith huffed,"Then you picked the wrong time to share your feelings with Shelby."
My ears flopped back on my neck as the class began to laugh.
"I'm disappointed in you Seth",Mr Smith said walking towards me,"give me the note."
I looked at the paper resting in the palm of my paw and quickly curled my three clawed fingers and thumb around it. There was no way I could give it to him,if my secret came out,bad things would happen to me or even worse to my family.
"Wait!" Shelby said loudly and standing,"I was the one passing notes."
Mr.Smith looked at Shelby in shock, and so did everyone else,I felt my ears perk back up with my surprise.
"Excuse me Shelby?" Mr.Smith asked,"run that by me again?"
"I wrote the notes,Shelby repeated,"not Seth".
Mr Smith looked at Shelby and then back at me.
"Well",he said,"since this is a first time offense,I'll let it go,just don't do it again."
