Patience

According to Ibn Al-Qayyim in his work 'Uddat al-Ṣābirīn, patience is divide into three components:

-Patience in worshiping Allah and adhering to His commands.
-Patience in avoiding sins and acts of disobedience.
-Patience with the decree of Allah and calamities.

So there are three different types of patience. One by listening to Allah and follow what He said. So like praying doing good and so on. And then there's patience in avoiding sin and staying away from the haram. Then the last type of patience is being patient when trials befall you. For example going through a divorce or earthquake or any calamities  or trials.

Allah said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

O you who believe, seek help through patience and prayer. Verily, Allah is with the patient.

Surat al-Baqarah 2:153

So get help from Allah through being patient and praying. Allah is with the patient.

And Allah said:

وَالَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ

They are those who are patient, seeking the countenance of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them, secretly and publicly, and repel evil with good, for those will have the good end.

Surat al-Ra'd 13:22

This one is pretty self explanatory. So the patient ones try to seek the countenance from Allah or his support or face. They pray and spend from their wealth for good. They try to do good and these people will have a good end inshallah. And Allah's promise is always true.

Allah said:

يَا بُنَيَّ أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَانْهَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا أَصَابَكَ ۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْأُمُورِ

Luqman said: O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Verily, that is among the matters requiring determination.

Surat Luqman 31:17

We can see the repeated use of prayer as with being patient. We can see its importance of prayer and how it is linked to patience. Luqman is telling his son to pray and do what is right and be patient for what happens to you.

So recap what we learned. We learned there are three types of patience. And that they are patience in worshipping Allah, staying away from the forbidden, and patience in calamity. And we learn the importance of prayer and its link to patience because God says establish prayer and be patient. While you pray make dua with all your heart. And inshallah Allah will help you get through this. May Allah keep us patient.
