And they lived happily ever after. Roman had officially married the princess of his dreams. Well, she wasn't really a princess.

She was a farmer's daughter who sometimes delivered at the palace. She had caught Roman's eye one day and every time she visited they would talk for what seemed like hours. They grew so close, she would make up excuses just to see him. Eventually, Roman asked for her hand in marriage and she, of course, said yes.

This brings us to the present. Roman and his princess were going to a party celebrating their wedding one of his friends was throwing for him. They couldn't say no, not that they wanted to.

"Are you excited love?" Roman asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.

She smiled and nodded. "Of course. I can't wait to really meet all your friends and to put my princess skills to the test."

He kissed her cheek tenderly. "I believe you'll do amazing as always."

She blushed as the car stopped. Jake, the chauffeur, opened the door and smiled at the couple. "Have fun you too."

She smiled at him and took his hand gently. "Thank you, Jake. Could you please be back by two?" She asked.

He nodded. "Of course. Anything for you, Her Royal Highness Princess Y/n."

"Please, Y/n is just fine." She reminded him.

Roman appeared at her side and linked arms with her. "Are you ready to go in my angel?"

She nodded softly. "I am. Lead the way darling."

They entered the pristine palace of Earl Patton. After dropping off their jackets with two servants, Patton came bounding up to them and surrounded them in a big hug.

"Oh, I'm so glad you two could make it to your party!" He laughed and pulled back. "Roman, Marquess Virgil, Duke Thomas, and Viscount Logan are waiting in the study. They said they wanted to congratulate privately. Y/n, you can head to the ballroom if you'd like. Agatha can show you the way."

A servant with bright, bouncing red curls beckoned for her to come with her. She obliged willingly. She knew how much Logan and Virgil liked to keep away from the spotlight, so if they needed their space, she would let them have it. Besides, this would give her the perfect opportunity to explore the royal world on her own. She was confident in her abilities to act appropriately.

As soon as she entered the ballroom, her confidence started to falter a little. There were SO many people! She felt self-conscious and shy all of a sudden and wanted to retreat back to the farm she knew and loved. Nevertheless, she took a deep breath and plunged into the sea of royalty and nobility.

"Congratulations."

"We're so happy for the two of you."

"We wish you love and happiness for the rest of your lives."

Comments like this were passed her way and she smiled and thanked them politely. However, this was all old news. She was glad people were happy for her, but she was getting a bit tired of hearing the same things over and over again. She just wished Roman was with her. She felt like she was always doing something wrong because, as soon as she was done talking to someone, they would turn up their nose and walk away stiffly.

After making her way across the floor, she leaned against the wall, exhausted from all the small talk. Being a princess was MUCH harder than she thought! How did Roman do it all the time and still have all that energy? It was practically unimaginable!

"Princess Y/n? What about her?" She caught a whisper from one of the ladies.

"I heard she was a farm girl before she married Prince Roman. Now she's to be Queen eventually! How embarrassing for her!" Her companion sneered behind her royal purple fan; her blonde curls bouncing.

"Oh indeed! Have you seen her curtsey? Disgraceful! And her conversations are flat and dull." The other girl snickered behind her emerald fan; the emeralds in her brown hair catching the light.

"Also that color she's wearing tonight? Hideous! She looks like a peasant considering how simple it is! I guess the saying is true." The blonde shook her head.

"Oh? And what would that be?"

"You can take the girl out of the farm, but you can't take the farm and its dirt out of the girl!" Both girls laughed at this and this is when Y/n ran.

She bolted out of the room, tears streaming down her face. She needed to get away from these stuck-up snobby girls who thought they were so interesting. She needed a place to breath and be alone.

Her head down, she slammed right into her husband, who was leaving the study with Patton, Virgil, Thomas, and Logan.

"Whoa, sweetheart, slow down." He noticed her tears. "Dove, what is the matter?"

"Roman, please, can we leave? Please, we need to leave." She begged.

Biting his lip, he intertwined his fingers with hers. "Come with me dearest."

He lead her to the terrace and her sobs grew. He sat her down on a bench and let her cry into his arms. When her tears started to slow, he pulled away slightly and lifted her chin so she could look him in the eyes. He gave her a knowing look and she sighed.

"These two women, they were making fun of me and where I am from. They don't think I could make a good Queen. I know I'm not the best now, but I also know I can get better. I just wish people would give me a chance." She explained, feeling tears well in her eyes.

He gave her a small smile. "Oh sweet, don't worry about what other people say about you. They are just jealous I fell in love with a real woman and not a whiny fake Barbie doll. I love you and nothing is going to change that, I promise." He kissed her sweetly on the lips.

"I love you too." She breathed before letting his lips captured hers again. "Do you believe I can make it as a Queen?"

He chuckled lightly. "I believe you will be the best Queen in the history of Queens. Just as long as you have faith and never change."

She smiled. "Sounds perfect. I can definitely do that."

He smiled before kissing her again. "I'm glad lovely."
