"I have to show you something!" I said excitedly, jumping up as Maurice stood up. He'd just got here and I was already pulling out my phone and turning down the brightness.
"Something good right?" He asked, hopping onto the bed with me, "Or maybe not. What is it?" He asked and I pulled up the video I'd taken days before.
"Okay so if I do end up coming down there, one of the main things I'd miss would be the sunrise." I started, trying to think of how to explain why I made the video, "And so I started thinking about how you can never see how beautiful it is, so I made this video. I mean, it's obviously better in real life, but... Oh, just watch the video." I muttered, handing him the phone as the video began to play.
He watched it and the small light emitting from the phone was enough to light up his face just enough for me to see a small smile on his face. I smiled slightly and rested my head on his chest as he pulled me closer. The video came to a finish with me sticking my tongue out and I heard him make a noise similar to a giggle. I grinned and took the phone from him.
"Hey Maurice..." I said in a hushed tone and he looked at me, "I know it sounds stupid, but you won't leave me, right?" I asked, internally cursing at myself. He sat up, pulling me away from him and putting his hands on my shoulders as he looked me in the eyes. I looked down, not sure I wanted to hear the answer.
"That does not sound stupid. Look me in the eye." He said and I did, "As long as I am unliving living, I will never leave you by choice." He said and I smiled, tackling him in a hug.
My hug was apparently more forceful than I thought. I pushed him off the bed and we both fell onto the floor below. I probably shouldn't have, but I pulled back and kissed his cheek before laying on his chest with a smile. When I realized what I had done, I felt my cheeks heat up as he snaked his arms around my waist.
"Ya know, you're the second to best human I've ever met." He said and I rolled my eyes.
"Wow. I'm not even the second to best anyone you've ever met, only human. I thought we had something special." I said, over dramatically with a giggle as I rolled off of him and onto the floor beside him, laying on my back. He sat up and turned so that he was hovering over me, one knee on one side of me while the other was on the opposite side and he face was close to mine. I felt my cheeks heat up and he smirked.
"Only something special if you want it to be special." He said. He was so close that I could feel his breath on my face and I squirmed slightly under him.
"Um, well, uh." I stuttered, looking away as I bit my lip. He grinned and leaned down closer. He was so close that his nose was touched my cheek and I tried to stop from blushing anymore than I already was.
"I know I'm so handsome and good looking, but I didn't think it'd be enough to drive even you speechless." He whispered and I grinned, pushing him off of me. He rolled off of me, sitting down, laughing.
"You're such a jerk!" I said, but laughed anyways. He did a cute little giggle thing and stood up, holding his hand out to me. I took it and he pulled me up.
"Ooh! I have something to show you. Think of it like a character builder." he said and we were on our way back to the Underworld.
Okay, so I might have figured out that something was mentally wrong with monsters. Yes, just tonight, because where Maurice brought me made me want to punch all of the monsters in the face.
We were in a nursery, a baby's nursery. There were monsters all around, leaning over her crib. I stared down at her, looking at the many monsters that were trying to scare her. I frowned and looked at Maurice, who looked like he was having the time of his life.
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked in a whisper and he looked at me.
"To scare her. Go on, try it! It's fun!" he said and I glared.
"No, its not." I growled and pushed him back, reaching into the crib. I picked up the baby and held her in my arms, rubbing her back to calm her as I backed away from the monsters. Some looked angry, like I had ruined their fun.
Good.
"Im going to take this little girl into the light, where you can't get to her. And then I'm going to go home." I told them and looked at Maurice, "And Maurice, don't bother to show up." I said and he looked like I had just killed his puppy, although to him, killing puppies must be amazing. I turned and tried to turn on the light, but it wouldn't work. I growled and opened the door, wincing as my hand vanished into my clothes. My eyes went wide and I looked at Maurice before opening the door and watching them all turn to clothes. I ran out, still holding the baby. She had calmed down since I'd picked her up. Once I got to the living room, I turned on the light and found a baby bouncer. I strapped her in it before running out of the house, hearing noises coming from the steps. I ran as fast as I could all the way home.
Tears stung my eyes as I ran, quickly wiping them away. I wasn't going to let whatever feelings I had for Maurice cloud my judgement. What he was doing was wrong and if that's what happens when you turn to a monster, then I'd take my chances with my mom. I couldn't even begin to explain the emotion I felt right now. The best I could put it...
I felt betrayed by the one that mattered most to me.
