Emma's POV
All of us are going to the worlds camp in two weeks! I'm so excited it's my first year as a senior so I really want to show the world what I can do being a first year senior like Morgan Hurd did last year! Right now we are training floor. I'm training a full twisting double layout into some pit mats. I'll probably compete it next year considering I haven't done it on anything harder than pit mats. I've done it so many times before. I start running. I flip into the air and do a layout twist and another layout. I land but it doesn't feel right. I limp out of the pit and over to the side of the runway. My coach comes over. "Emma what's wrong?" She asks. "My ankle." I say catching my breath. "What happened to your ankle?" She asks again. "I felt it pop...like it broke or something." I say sitting up. "Can you move it?" Mary Lou asks. "No." I reply. She tries moving it and I start crying. "Ok well Emma I'll help you walk over to get your stuff and you can call your mom." She tells me. "Can you put any weight on it?" She asks. I try putting my foot down but I immediately pick it back up. "No." I say. She yells for Riley. I jump onto Riley's back and she takes me over to get my bag and phone. She didn't ask what was wrong because she could tell that I didn't need to be messed with right now. I call my mom and she takes me to the hospital. I got x-rays done. The doctor comes in and tells us what happened. "Well she chipped a piece of her bone in her ankle and she tore some ligaments in her ankle as well." He told us. "When will I be able to do gymnastics again?" I ask, getting a little loud. "Well you have to have surgery to remove the chipped piece of bone in your ankle and repair the torn ligaments but then you will be on crutches for 6 weeks with a cast. After that you will be in a boot for 4 weeks with crutches and then you will be in a brace on crutches for another 3 weeks. You can start light training on bars and beam after those 13 weeks. You will have to do physical therapy for 3 months." He told me. That was a ton of information for me to absorb. Surgery? Crutches for 13 weeks? I can't even start full training until 25 weeks after surgery and I have to do physical therapy for thee months! This was not what I was expecting at all. Well, at least the other girls have an even better chance of making the Worlds team. They put a very supportive brace on my ankle and give me crutches to use until I get surgery in a week. My mom takes me to the house I share with Ragan, Morgan, Jade, Ashton, and Riley. I walk into the house and tell them what happened. The same thing happened to Ragan in 2016 but she only chipped her bone and was on crutches for two weeks. "So when are you getting surgery?" Riley asks. Ashton had her surgery last week. "Next week." I say. We call both of our coaches and tell them what happened. "Is it okay if Ragan comes with me? Can she skip practice that day?" I ask. "Of course Emma! You take the time you need to recover and rest easy! Good luck!" They both say. "Thanks! I reply. We hang up and because it's late, we all went to bed. My room is upstairs and so is Jade's room and Riley's room. "Hey Emma do you want to sleep in my room because you can't go upstairs?" Ragan asks. "Sure! Sleepover in Ragan's room!" I say laughing. That makes Ragan laugh too. She helps me into bed and we go to sleep.
