"-happy birthday to you!" my family sang and then jumped at me to hug me, which was sweet, but
"Need...oxygen...mom," and they jumped away.
"Oh, sorry, dear, we're all just so excited, right, guys?" she said, eyeing the rest of my family, they nodded quickly, afraid of what might come, if they don't.
My mother was a sweet lady, but sometimes, if necessary, she could be frightening as hell. Anyway, my family - the Colley family- consists of me, my mom Sophia, my younger brother Cole, who's 15, and my dad Kyle. Honestly, I liked my family, even though they might get a bit peculiar at times and I think dad's lowkey afraid of mom. They loved each other though, my parents, I mean, they'd been together for about 20 years and still hadn't lost the spark. It's probably because they were mates.
They're the reason I was excited to meet mine, I wanted the love they shared, but male wolves were known to be possessive and that's what I didn't need in my life.
Anyway, my plan to make it back home before my family notices my empty bed was successful. I waited for about 30 minutes before the three of them bursted into my room with happy faces and chocolate cake and started to sing the legendary birthday song. After thanking them and hugging them all again, individually, we went downstairs.

"So, are you excited? About, you know, meeting your mate?" Cole asked when we were cleaning up the table, after finishing with the cake, scratching his neck awkwardly. I raised an eyebrow.
"Are we really going to have this conversation?" I laughed. Sure, Cole and I were close, but we'd never talked about mates or anything close to that. Cole blushed a bit and I hit his shoulder playfully.
"I'm just kidding, don't worry about it. And to answer to your question - honestly, I'd rather wait for a few more years, there's so much I haven't had a chance to do yet and I want to, before settling down with anyone, you know?" Cole nodded, putting away the last plates.
"I'm happy you still have a few years before all of that, don't waste it," I said, feeling a bit sad, that no one had ever given me the same advice.
"Yeah, I suppose so," came from him and silence took over for a while.
"But d-," Cole got interrupted by my phone ringing in my back pocket. I sent him an apologetic look and walked out of the room, answering the phone.
"Hey, girl! Happy birthday! Oh, my gosh, are you excited? What a silly question, of course you are! I bet your mate will be a hunk, and god, think of the perfect babies you'll make! Damn, I can't wait to meet mine-,"  and that, my dear friends, was Olivia, my best friend. Her never ending positivity was admirable, really, though sometimes she could be a bit naive.
"Don't forget to breathe, Liv," I laughed, she also tended to get a bit over-excited about things that weren't so exciting, for example, my birthday.
"Oh, shush, there's so much I wanna talk to you about and you have an annoying habit of always cutting me off so I'm trying to say everything as fast as I can!" I laughed again, I loved that girl, even though we were so different sometimes.
"Anyway, I'm gonna come over at 2, okay? Good. See you then! Kisses!" and the line disconnected. Honestly, I didn't mind her coming over, she was like a sister to me. I checked the clock on the wall. 11:47, good, that left me some time to clean up my room.

"-and then he looked at me, you should've seen his eyes, I swear they're the prettiest I've ever seen," she sighed dreamily. Liv had come over with a huge bag of snacks and a present, which was really unneccessary.
She had always been a bit boy crazy, and vice versa, boys had always been interested in her. They couldn't be blamed though - Liv was the Alpha's daughter, and with her slim figure, long blonde hair and doe like eyes, she was absolutely gorgeous. And to add in her bubbling personality, she was almost a perfect girl.
"Do you think he could be your mate?" I asked, referring to Liam, one of the young warriors in our pack.
"I don't know, but I hope so, he's so hot and damn, you should've seen him spar with Dylan today, it-," I zone out for a bit. See, that was the main difference between us, she was really excited to meet her mate and she's had experience of being with boys, she's had a few boyfriends in the past, but soon decided to wait and save herself for her mate. I, on the other hand, was completely inexperienced in every aspect.

A few hours later, Liv left to babysit her younger sister. I was tired, so I decided to take a nap, which soon turned into a deeper sleep.

Sometime at night, I woke up, sure I'd heard something. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, walked to my window and almost screamed. I saw a figure, standing at the edge of the woods, facing me. It was dark, so I couldn't see his face. Creepy, I thought. I was about to open the window to get a better look, but he was gone. What? But he'd just been there a second ago!
Shaking my head and thinking I must've still been dreaming, I got back to my bed and fell asleep again.
