Liv and I were sprawled out on her couch, comfortable as ever. At some point, Liam had also come over and was currently making some tea for Liv. She absolutely loved tea and it was sweet of him to offer to make it.
"So, what's going on between you and Liam?" I asked curiously. Liv still wasn't sure if Liam was her mate, even if Liam was almost 19, he couldn't sense it either, because Liv hadn't had her birthday yet.
"I don't know," she replied sighing, "He's so nice to me and being with him makes me happy, but I don't want to get too attached to him in case he isn't my mate," I nodded, understanding.
"You'll know in a few weeks, it's going to get easier then," I assured her.
Suddenly, I remembered to check the time. 9.46 p.m. How had lunch turned to evening so fast?
"Shit, I gotta go, I promised Ryker to be back before dark," looking outside, I had already broken that promise. I hopped up, took my jacket and rushed to the door.
"Love you, see you tomorrow!" I yelled and ran towards the woods without looking back.
"Mate's gonna be mad," scolded Faith.
"I doubt he even realized we're not there, don't worry, he probably has a thousand other things to do than to be mad at us," I assured, sure of my words.
——
I tried to sneak into the house as quietly as I could, not making a sound, hoping to get up to my room as fast as I could. I took off my boots, turned to lock the door, but when I turned back, I was greeted with a topless torso. Shit.I blushed, realizing I was bluntly staring at him and turned my eyes to the ground, fiddling with my fingers. Faith's worrying had somehow still rubbed off on me and suddenly, I was scared of him being mad.
"You promised to be back before it gets dark," his voice was low, calm, void of any emotions. I tilted my head upwards and locked my eyes with his. I couldn't read anything from them, he was good at hiding his feelings. I gulped.
"I'm sorry, I lost track of time," my voice was quiet and sightly shaking. When he didn't reply, I tried to push past him to get upstairs, but he stopped me by pushing me against the wall softly and engaging me in his hands.
My heart was beating as if it was gonna fly out of my chest, I'm sure he heard it. What was he doing?
He closed his eyes and sniffed the air, they were almost black when he reopened them.
"You were with a male," he almost spat out, anger clear in his voice.
"What? No! I was with Liv, Liam was just there, visiting her," I was quick to defend myself, because it was true. Liam was only there for Liv, we talked a bit, but nothing happened.
He hesitated for a second, probably thinking whether to believe me or not, but then pushed himself off of me and turned to leave. I breathed out in relief, suddenly, the situation dawned on me.
"Did you really think I'd be with another male, when I already have a mate?" I asked, hurt. He stopped in his tracks and didn't say anything.
"I'm not like that, I would never do anything like that," I said, my blood boiling, pushed past him and walked up to my room, slamming the door.Ryker's POV
I turned to the wall to my left and slammed my hand onto it. Damn it. I took a deep breath in, trying to calm myself and pushed my wolf, who
desperately wanted to run after Farrah, fall to my knees and apologize, back to the back of my mind.
The thought of her with another male made me want to shift and kill someone. She had only been with me for a few days, but I knew I'd go
nuts if something happened to her or I suddenly lost her.
I dragged a hand through my hair in frustration and walked upstairs to my office, deciding to do some work to distract both me and my wolf.——
Farrah's POV
It had been a few weeks since the night of our small argument and we hadn't talked much since then. We ate separately, he drove us to training, I usually stayed with my family or Liv after and ran back to Ryker's when it was almost dark. He was either away or working every time I got home, so I really only saw him at mornings.
I missed him. There, I said it. Even if we hadn't had much time to get to know each other, the bond was always urging me to be with him and that little time we had before he argument, was good.
I wasn't going to apologize, but I didn't think he was going to either. See, that's what I meant, when I said I didn't want a mate. One person could affect you so much. I was constantly thinking about him and when I wasn't, Faith was, and that was pretty much the same thing.
——
I stepped out of the bathroom and wanted to scream when I noticed Ryker sitting on the edge of my bed. I clutched my towel closer to myself and tried to calm my racing heart. I suddenly got nervous.
He stood up, but thankfully kept his eyes on mine, I was thankful for that.
"I," he started but stopped, running his hands down his face "I'm sorry, about what I said the other night," I was shocked, I definitely thought I was going to be the one to give in and eventually apologize. I didn't say anything. I didn't know what to say, I couldn't exactly say "it's fine", because in my opinion, it wasn't fine. I was thankful for the apology, but still sad he thought I'd even think of being with another guy.
I roamed my eyes over him. He looked tired, dark circles surrounded his eyes, his hair was messy.
I sighed, took a few steps towards him until we were less then a foot apart and hesitantly put my arms around him, hugging him to show I'd forgive him. After all, he was my mate and I wanted things to work out between us. He made no movement at first, but eventually took ahold of my waist and pulled me closer, I placed my chin on his shoulder and breathed in his scent.
I liked it, I felt warm, safe, comfortable and most importantly- happy.
