"So, where can I put my things?" I asked when we had gotten into the house. It was absolutely beautiful, by the way, and definitely bigger than necessary.
"There's a spare bedroom across from mine," so, we weren't going to share a room. As if sensing my direction of thoughts, he muttered: "I think it's better that way, for now, at least," and I nodded, agreeing. My wolf couldn't help but feel a bit hurt though.

He led me up the stairs, neither of us said a word.

I was too busy admiring the beauty of everything, that I didn't even notice him stop and walked right into him. I muttered a small apology and took a step back, embarrassed. Luckily, he didn't get mad, which was a bit surprising, because even though it was a small thing, I've heard he had quite a temper.
"You still with me?" he asked, waving his hand in front of my face. I blushed again, why do I always embarrass myself in front of him?
"Yes, sorry. What were you saying?" he shook his head.
"I was just showing you to your room. Here, I'll take your bag now," he replied and made a gesture for me to enter and took my bag from me.

Yes, he had offered to carry it as soon as we were out of the car, but I didn't want to seem weak in his eyes, so I refused. Even if I wasn't too fond of the idea of mates, I still wanted to leave a good impression of myself.

I stepped inside and gasped. Everything was beautiful in there as well, I didn't even know why I was surprised.
The room was simple, but I liked it. The walls were light gray and the small amount of furniture was all white.
"It's not much, but we can always add stuff," he said, but I waved him off.
"I love it," I replied simply and walked further into the room. Everything smelled like him, as if he'd been here recently, it was calming. I turned around to face him.
"Thank you," I said sincerely. Ryker raised an eyebrow.
"For what?" he asked, walking to the closet and putting my bag down in front of it.
"For the room and everything," also that he didn't treat me like I was lower than him, I was thankful for that. He nodded, looking a bit uncomfortable.
"Now, where's the dog?" I asked, clapping my hands together excitedly.

-
"Who's a good boy? You are! Yes, you're the good boy!" I said playfully to Murphy while ruffling his fur. Murphy, with his fluffy white fur and big blue eyes, was the cutest dog I'd ever seen and despite his big size, he was very playful.
"Are you hungry?" yelled Ryker, probably from the kitchen. My stomach rumbled, answering his question and I nodded, but understood my stupidity a second later, when I realized he couldn't see me. Instead of yelling a reply back, I stood up and dragged my feet there.

I stopped at the doorframe, my gaze fixating on Ryker. He was wearing a black t-shirt, a simple pair of dark blue jeans and his hair was incredibly messy, but he still somehow managed to pull it off and look sexy. His woodsy scent was lingering in the air and I couldn't help but close my eyes and devour it.

"See? The mate bond's doing wonders, you're already getting into him," teased Faith. I stayed silent because as much as I didn't want to admit it, she was right.

"What are we making?" I asked, taking a seat on one of the stools near the kitchen island. Ryker stood with his back facing mine, but I didn't mind.

"Actually, what do you usually eat?" he asked, turning around.

"Uhm, food?" I replied stupidly, not completely understanding the question.

"That's not what I meant, let me rephrase. Do you like a fresh kill or are you more into actual human food?" What kind of a question was that? He was pretty much asking if I liked a rabbit, that was alive a minute ago or pasta.

"I- wait, is that what you eat? Fresh meat?" I asked, finally understanding the thought behind the question. He nodded.

"Usually, yes. My wolf and I generally enjoy hunting and I find that easier than cooking, but I'm willing to eat anything if you're willing to cook," now it was my time to nod. I found his eating habits a bit strange, but since we're half-wolves, I shouldn't be surprised.

I slid down the stool, walked to where he was standing and opened a cupboard. A moment later I did the same to two other ones and then turned to him.

"If I'm gonna cook, we need to go grocery shopping," I said, referring to the empty cupboards.

"You're probably right, we can go right now," he said somewhat embarrassed and grabbed his car keys, while I grabbed my jacket.

-----

"Maybe we should split up? That way we'll be done quicker," I suggested. He was hesitant for a second but then nodded. I took the shopping list that we had made in the car and tore it in half, handing him a piece.

"Here, you get those while I get the other stuff, okay?" He nodded again, taking the paper from my hand.

"Find me as soon as you're done," he replied, leaving no room for objections while looking around warily. I nodded and turned around to pick up some milk, which was the first thing on the list.

I huffed out in annoyance. I had been looking for the freaking vegetable section for at least five minutes but couldn't locate it. I swear there was a sign for everything but not vegetables.

"Need some help?" asked someone, startling me a bit. The someone was a he, Oscar, as his nametag read. He seemed to be working here.

"I can't seem to find the vegetables," I said hopelessly.

"I can take you there, follow me," he replied coolly and started walking, me following him silently. I thanked him, once we were at the right place. He didn't leave.

"You're very pretty, you know?" He said smugly. Great, this was getting very uncomfortable.

"Uh, thanks," I replied, hoping he'd leave now. Apparently, he had other plans.

"I was thinking, since I helped you out, maybe you could help me out and we could have some fun together?" How gross and very impolite of him. Any normal guy wouldn't just go around asking that.

"Not interested," he was really starting to piss me off. Before he had a chance to say anything else, Ryker's scent came around and a strong hand wrapped itself around my waist.

"I suggest you shut your mouth and back the hell off the lady," he hissed angrily. I was relieved he had come to my rescue, but Oscar didn't take the clear message seriously and puffed out his chest, trying to look intimidating.

"Who are you to order me around?" he asked. I could sense Ryker getting pissed off so I leaned towards him.

"He's human, he doesn't feel your authority, let's leave him be and go home," I whispered in his ear. Ryker's hand tightened around my waist a bit.

"If I ever see your face around again, I'll make sure to be the last thing you see, understood?" he growled out and grabbed my hand, pulling me away from Oscar. I didn't look back, but I could imagine the scared look on his face. Serves him right.
