June 1989 –

It's been 9 months since Georgie went missing and Derry hasn't been the same since. Georgie wasn't the only child that went missing, in fact quite a few children have been reported to the point where it was becoming frightening to be out after school

A few weeks ago, a girl from my class, Betty Ripsom was reported missing too. The fact children were going missing more often became a worrying issue, hence why we now have a curfew for 7pm

I watched Billy talking and joking around with the lads, finally happy that he's able to laugh again since Georgie. It's been tough being there for him and not showing him how much it affected me too. In a way I've still not been able to grieve myself because I was trying to keep everyone else happy

'You okay?' Eddie asked

I nodded and gave him a weak smile

'That's a lie.' He said, 'You're frowning.'

'I-im fine, just going to miss actually having something to do.' I partly lied, but part of me was telling the truth. Now school was over I wasn't going to be doing much, staying in all day listening to the new insults my dad had come up with

'Why? you can hang out with us! Bill won't mind.' He said

'Oh no I couldn't do that, I mean it's your guys summer.' I said

'Well I think you should.' He smiled 'Bill can y/n hang out with us later?'

'O-of course s-silly.' He smiled

'Thanks guys.' I said and joined them

We walked outside of school and headed straight to the bins, it was a tradition to throw you books away at the end of the year

We shook our bags over the bin watching all the stuff in our bags fall in

'Best feeling ever!' Stan said

'try tickling your pickle for the first time.' Richie said, earning an eye roll from everyone

'Hey what do you guys want to do tomorrow?' Eddie asked

'I start my training.' Richie said

'what training?' Eddie asked

'Street fighting.'

'That's how you wanna spend your summer? At an arcade?'

'beats spending it inside of your mother.' He said and raised his hand up to Stan, in hopes of a Hi-5

Stan put his hand down

'What if we go to the quarry?'

'Yes its nice there.' I said

'Guys we h-have to go the barrens.' Bill said

'Right.' Stan said, no one really wanted to argue with the plans Bill had, seen as though it was helping him over Georgie going missing

'Betty Ripsoms mum..' Eddie said

We all turned around to see the woman standing outside, the little hope she had left. Hoping to see her little girl walk out those doors.

'She really expecting to see her come out of school?'

'I don't know. Asif Betty Ripsom has been hiding at home for the last 3 weeks.' Eddie said

'Must be heart breaking.' I said

'You think they will actually find her?'' Stan asked

'Sure... in a ditch all decomposed, covered in worms and maggots smelling like eddies mum's underwear.' he said
