We walked into the town and saw the street carnival was going on

I looked over to see Richie trying to play the instruments in the parade

I rolled my eyes and turned to Bill

'You alright?'

He examined the poster, of the new child that was announced missing

'they said they found a part of his hand all chewed up near the stand pipe' Stan said

I got a shiver down my spine, feeling the sickness coming back

'he asked to borrow a pencil once' ben mumbled

''It's like she's been f-forgotten, because Corcoran is missing' Bill said and lifted up the poster

'is it ever going to end?'

'I hope so, guys come on it's a little weird don't you think? All these children going missing and not one of them found? Body parts being found chewed up?' I frowned

Eddie and Richie walked back over

'What you guys talking about?' he asked

He passed me and ice cream

'Aw thank you' I smiled

He gave me a smile in return

'what they always talk about.' Richie said and took the other ice cream off Eddie

'I actually think it will end, for a little while at least' ben said d

'what do you mean?' I asked

'so, I was going over all my Derry research and I charted out all the big events. The iron works explosion in 1908, the bradley gang in '35 and the black spot in '62 and now kids being- 'he stopped and looked at Bill, he sighed 'I realised that stuff seems to happen every- '

'27 years' bill interrupted

We all looked at each other, confused

'Im sorry what?' I asked

--

We all decided its best we didn't talk about it so publicly, so we walked over to the bench near the stage and sat down

'so, let me get this straight... it comes out from wherever to eat kids and then what? goes into hibernation' Eddie asked

'maybe its like that bug that comes out every 17 years'

'my grandfather thinks this town is cursed, he says that all the bad things that happen, all come from one thing. And even thing that feeds of the people of Derry' mike said

A chill ran through my spine just thinking about it

'But it can't be one thing... we all saw something different.' Stan defended

'Maybe. or maybe it knows what scares us most and uses it against us'

'i-I saw a leper. It was like a walking infection' Eddie cut in

I grabbed his hand, trying to comfort him the best I can

He gave me a little squeeze and smiled

'but you didn't... because it isn't real' Stan said 'none of this is... Not eddies leper, or Bill seeing Georgie or that woman I keep seeing' he said

'Is she hot?' Richie said

Immediately earning an eye roll

'No Richie! She's not hot!' Stan said sharply 'her face is all messed up! None of this makes any sense, they're all like bad dreams'

'I don't think so... I know the difference between a bad dream and real life okay' mike said

'what did you see? Did you see something too?' Eddie asked

'yes. You know that house that burnt down? I was inside when it burnt down.' He sighed, turning his attention to his fingers

'It's okay mike' I said

He nodded 'before I was rescued, my mum and dad were trapped in the next room. They were pushing and pounding on the door, trying to get to me'

A lump formed in my throat

'but it was too hot, when the fireman finally found them, their skin on their heads had melted down to the bone' he said

I turned away, putting my head on eddies shoulder, no one spoke. No one knew what to say

We all had fears, but mikes were personal, heart breaking compared to ours

'we are all afraid of something' mike said, breaking the silence

'You got that right' Richie said

I lifted my head and looked at him

'what you scared of Richie?' I asked

'Clowns' he said

'm-meet at mine in 20' Bill said and stood up

'Why where u going?' I asked

'Home. Just meet me okay' he said leaving us all sat there

I frowned and got up

'Il follow him'

'Wait bill!' I shouted

He stopped

'Y-you should've stayed' he said

'im not leaving you on your own. Especially not now' I said and stood next to him

'D-do you think he's gone Y-y/n?' Bill asked, the question I hoped he would never ask me. It's not that I didn't have hope, but I didn't want to be giving him false hope either. I think we all know deep down something is wrong here whether we admitted it or not.

I looked at him and I know what he wanted me to say

'I-I don't know Billy. I hope not' I mumbled

I reached over and grabbed his hand giving it a little squeeze

'Hey, do you remember that time you me a Georgie went to the little river?' I said

He smiled at the memory 'y-yeah. I got into the river and h-he stood on my back pretending to sail the s-ship'

I laughed 'yeah, He's a good kid. Bill, I promise ill stand by you through this whole thing okay? We won't give up.'

'Thank you y/n' he said and kissed my cheek
