Ash walked out of the changing room onto the hot sand of the Melemele beach. He let his eyes drift around the beach, observing his friends. Kiawe and Sophocles were sitting on their beach towels eating ice cream, Lillie and Lana were splashing around in the water and Mallow was building a sand castle by herself. They were all enjoying themselves and Ash couldn't wait to join in.
Ash began to run to them before he tripped and fell flat on his face. Mallow immediately turned, laughing loudly when she glimpsed her friend, sprawled out on the sand. Ash felt his face grow warm out of embarrassment. He could be very clumsy at times. He laughed along with Mallow a bit, before getting up and trying, unsuccessfully to dust off the sand. After a bit, he simply shrugged and went to join Lana and Lillie in the water.
Ash noisily splashed into the water; it was cold and refreshing. Ash waded in farther, feeling the coldness; appreciating just how nice the water was. That was, until somebody splashed him from behind.
Ash whipped around to see Lillie and Lana pointing at each other "It was her!" They said in unison.
Ash grinned. He dove in and jumped out, dowsing the already wet Lillie and Lana. They squealed, but quickly splashing him back. Soon they were all after each other and Kiawe and Sophocles joined.
They spent a good while splashing in the water, before deciding they would leave. Ash shook the water out of his hair and went to get changed.
As he was changing something slipped out of his bag. Old things would always fall out of his bag, he was not the most organized, obviously, so it was a surprise. But that item in particular was one he had looked at often. It was a photograph of him, his companions from Kalos and Korrina. He looked at all of there faces. Bonnie... Clemont... Serena, he missed all of them. Especially Serena. He had noticed that more and more lately, as he had caught himself thinking of her. often times he would stare at her in the picture, not really looking it, but being lost in thought about her. Every time he thought of her, he would feel the strange warming feeling in his chest and his heart would beat faster.
He didn't know what this feeling was. Sure, he missed all his friends, Brock, Misty, May, and Dawn, to name a few, but Serena was different. He couldn't stop thinking about her, and there was just something special about her.
"Ash!" He heard Mallow yell from outside the changing room, "You almost done?"
Ash had done it again; he had gotten lost in thought about Serena. He shook his head and quickly pulled his shirt on.
"One sec!" He shoved the picture in his bag, zipped it up and ran out.

It was the middle of the day and Ash was bored. It was too hot out to train, nobody wanted to go to the beach with him and he wasn't really up for doing anything, anyway.
He felt sleepy and decided to take a nap. He lay back on the couch and slowly drifted off to sleep.

He was walking in a circle, in a room that was completely empty. He didn't know what he was doing, where he was or when he had gotten there. He just kept walking.
As he turned, there was suddenly a hallway. He walked down it without really thinking about it.
He walked into a stadium with a bunch of people sitting in the seats. He walked past all of them, nobody seeming to take notice, and walked all the way to the stage.
Up on the stage was Shauna, closest to him, another girl, who was farther away, he didn't recognize. He walked to the other side of the stage to see another girl. Serena.
"Serena!" He called. She appeared to have not heard him.
"Serena"
"SERENA!"
She turned to him, her smile instantly fading, replaced with a horrible glare.
"What are you doing here?" She demanded "I thought you were traveling again? What, you thought I would still want to see you after you left me to go to some other regions?"
Ash stood there, shocked, not knowing what to do.
"I... But, you went to Hoenn...I thought... aren't you happy here?"
Tears sprung in her eyes, "Happy?! After you left me? Yeah, I'm totally happy after you abandoned me" and with that, she ran off.
"SERENA!" Ash cried hopelessly after her "SERENA, WAIT!"

Ash woke with a start, looking up at the faces of Mallow and Lillie.
It had just been a dream, thank goodness...
Mallow giggled. "Were you having a nightmare? Who's Serena?"
"You talk in your sleep" Lillie said quietly.
"She's... no one" he turned away. What if Serena really did think he had left her? What if she was mad at him?
"Do you... like her?" Mallow said, raising her eyebrows.
"What?" Ash looked up at her, confused. "She's just an old friend..."
But is she still a friend? Will she want to see him?
Stop that, he thought, of course she'll want to see you again! I mean, she did kiss you. Who kisses someone they don't like?
Ash's heart leaped at the thought. He had nearly forgotten that Serena had kissed him the last time they saw each other.
"Hello?" Mallow was waving her hand in front of Ash's face. "Do you want to come?"
"Come...?" Ash asked looking at Mallow and Lillie. He had started drifting off into thought again.
Mallow rolled her eyes, "to go get ice cream with us! Geez, Ash, you always seem out of it, lately... has something been bothering you?"
"I- no, I'm fine." He didn't want to tell them about Serena, they'd probably just laugh at him.
"Okay, well, wanna come, anyway?"
"Yeah, sure, just let me go get my shoes"
They started off to go get ice cream and Ash couldn't help but wonder how Serena was doing. Where was she right now? Was she happy and doing good? Was she ever thinking of him?
