Brady POV
I watched Gen's ponytail swing as she walked down the tunnel and out of sight. A tear slowly dripped down my face as I get a pat on the back from Ryan. "Come on Brady," Jack said, "Time to go." My family led us to the car slowly, and I followed behind with my head down.
As soon as I got home I trudged up the steps to my room. Immediately when my door shut I let it all out. I laid in bed staring at the ceiling remembering she was beside me just earlier. The sheets smelled sweet like her. The floral scent reminded me that eventually I won't be able to smell this anymore. My breathing became more shallow.
Then I remembered, what could "look under your bed for monsters" possibly mean? I've never really been one to believe in the boogeyman or anything. I looked under my bed to find a shoebox, a heavy one too. I confusedly open the box and cry even harder. There were pictures, tons of them.
Each picture was an original from our childhood and paper-clipped to it was a picture she remade of us from yesterday. So that's what her and Casey were talking about. I just- I can't believe she went through all that just for me. At the very bottom of the box was a folded piece of notebook paper it read,
B, since I can no longer be there as your good luck charm, I leave you this bracelet. I love and miss you, xx Genevieve.
In the folded paper was a leather bracelet with a silver plate on it that on the inside read, "Good Luck, Love Gen." The outside had a heart on it.
I continued to shuffle through the stacks with my sobs growing even louder until my tears brought me to sleep.
I woke up at 1:14 and very confused. Taking in my surroundings I realize I cried myself to sleep from the pictures. I checked my phone to find out G landed safely in LAX two hours ago according to her Snapchat story. I send a text, "Glad you made it safely, love and miss you." I pull myself out of bed, and look into my bathroom mirror to see I had puffy eyes and faint circles under them. I splash my face with some water and head to the kitchen. I slept through lunch, but Coleen left me a plate in the microwave. Bless her. While eating the pasta, I do some scrolling to see what all I missed, and a particular Snapchat story twenty-two seconds ago caught my eye.
Gen
Oh great, she made friends already. And one's a guy. She still hasn't even texted me back, what a great friend.
To try and get my mind off of things, I went on a walk though the neighborhood. And eventually, I came across a golden retriever puppy flopping around excitedly. "Hey little buddy," I say bending down to him. I pick it up to see his name is Lucky. Just as I am about to dial in the number on his collar I hear," Oh there you are!" I look up to meet the gaze of a beautiful girl with long blonde hair. "Oh yeah, he um he stumbled into my path and I was actually just about to call you." "Well thank you very much for finding him," she holds the dog. "And nice to meet you, I'm Vanessa." "Brady, and uh, have you ever been to Jillian's?" We got ice cream and with every bite all I could think is how I wanted a bite of cookies and cream, but she got pistachio. She's thirteen and has lived in Wisconsin all of her life, but just moved to Shorewood. G just left shorewood. Vanessa likes the color gray and hates nature. Gen loves rose gold and wants to save the earth. Vanessa hates fish and can't stand plays. Genna loves plays and sings showtunes all the time. The more I learned about Vanessa, the more I thought about Gen. I realized they were polar opposites.
I guess it's time for change.
A/N: so... Vanessa? Yeah there's this girl at school I don't like, so I named her after her. Sorry for the wait! Hopefully getting a chapter up in the next 24 hours? Fingers crossed!
